I have no idea where to start or how to go about doing it or what the cost may be. But I'd liek to build an Iron Man Mark III suit. How would I go about doing that?

Even that info can easily be found by searching the forums and literally clicking on search and typing in the info you wish to learn more about. There are probably 100 builds on this forum involving Iron Man.

What kind of prop building experience do you have? What tools do you have at your disposal?

Off the top of my head, the two most common ways to make a suit is starting pepakura style or sculpting out of clay.

If you go the pepakura route you will need...

Pepakura Viewer/Designer
Cardstock pref 110lb
Exacto Knife/Blades or Scissors
Glue... White, PVA, Hot Glue (My Fave), Super Glue
Ruler, straight edge
Dremel
Bondo
Resin
Sanding device... paper, power sander, files

Off the top of my head that is what I'm coming up with.

I'm building a Mark VI right now if you want to pop over to my thread and see what it looks like. It's also a first time build, but turning out awesome.

...and patience. so much patience. :D

nobody mentioned foam? or the other cardboard way?
foam is far and away the easiest of all of them, probably also the cheapest, if you get a decent foam supplier, and sure as hell the fastest...
mark 3 means the only name you should be thinking of is Dancinfools pep files
