It's just been announced that there's a new Red Sonja movie in the works, it's being produced by Millennium Media and Cinelou, there's no word on who's to star, who's writing, or who's going to direct it, or even when it's scheduled to be released. The only details mentioned was that it wasn't going to be a continuation of the original Red Sonja movie starring Brigitte Nielson, so it's not a sequel/prequel, more of a remake/reboot which, given how lackluster the original was, is a good thing.
The kind good or bad thing, depending on your perspective, is that neither studios are big names with a track record that you can follow. I tried looking up Millennium Media and I found several different MMs so I'm not sure which one is the one producing Red Sonja. The other, Cinelou, does have something of a track record but it's from (indy) films that I've never heard like Phoenix Forgotten and Burn Your Maps. So it's hard to say how good of a movie this will be based on the production studios behind it, but hopefully it will be good, it's been a long while since we've had a good sword and sorcery movie.
