Carl Fredrickson - 99% completed with items right out of the closet. Still need a white wig and make some bushy white eyebrows.

My question is for some help on how to make a prosthetic jowls for the mouth area. This would be the crowning finish for this costume.

Still looking for a cheap cane!

Russell - Pretty much done. Most of the parts are purchased off of Evil Bay. 32 various patches sewn onto a brown sash. Orange kerchief and a polymer clay holder. Yellow and green beads attached to some sort of merit badge. Already have the Wilderness Explorer patches for hat and shirt as well as the American flag for the right shoulder. Not going to work on a backpack due to the fact that my Russell is only 3 and may fall backwards with all that weight!

Just a quick update of the patch (that appears to be leather) found on Russell's left chest pocket. I am going to make the beads out of yellow and green Sculpey clay.

Another update. I got the Russell Wilderness Explorer hat and shirt completed. The shirt started out as a blue denim colored OSH KOSH button up shirt. I striped all the color out using bleach (this took forever) and washed it multiple times. The hat is a 3-7 year old white baseball cap. Both items were soaked in yellow RIT dye for color.

Patches are courtesy of a fellow RPFer and American flag is pretty much available anywhere.

I still need to clean up and dye the merit badge sash dark brown and get to sewing 30 merit badges!!!:cry I also need to finish up the yellow and green beads that are attached to the merit badge above.

Great stuff, man...but I can't wait to see how you pull off Carl.

About the Wilderness Explorer badge...did you have an entire run done? I'm trying to get a small run of patches made (five tops) and every company I've contacted wants 30 bucks a piece for them. How much did you drop for yours and if possible, can you give me the RPFer's name?

Well I thought I would PM you but I can't find who made them. It was back in Nov/Dec so I can't find any of the threads in Junkyard!

Another update. My version of the flag that Russell carries. Made out of hobby foam material. Used to make all those soft toys for kids.

Re: WIP Thread 05-11-09 - Carl Fredrickson and Russell Disney/PIXAR'S UP

I worked on some more of the Wilderness Explorer merit badges. I painted the leather W.E. device, fired up some polymer clay beads, drilled, and strung them up. As SA as possible all the way down to the number of turns on the brown line that holds the beads!!!!:lol

Good afternoon sir!

Can I walk you across the street? NO!!!!

Russell is finished. I just need to find some orange shoelaces small enough to fit a 3-year olds hiking shoes!!! :confused

I do intend on engraving the brass buckle on the belt with the Wilderness Explorer logo but that may be later!!!

Well with the wifey being prego and the fact that she didn't want to be Kevin or Dug (although the munchkin wanted her to be) I made her a Wilderness Explorer Den Mother type costume. She will wear brown pants and hiking boots. Once again I need to hunt for orange shoelaces. She may also end up carrying the flag!!!:lol

Some of these picture quotes are from the trailers if you have seen the various versions out there. They are called Upisodes!
 We get fully decked out Sunday at the El Capitan theater!

Holy moly, that's fantastic!
Cutest thing ever.

You ever finish your Carl costume?

Well Carl Fredrickson is done. I didn't have the nerve to shave off my Captain Jack hair so I look like a cross between Colonel Sanders and Carl. $20.00 wig and eyebrows worked fine for this event however I have a better white wig and eyebrows on the way. I also will shave for Halloween and add some Ve Neil palette to get more grumpier facial expressions.

The wifey didn't want to be Kevin or Dug (due to being preggo) so she settled on being a Wilderness Explorer den mother.

This is the BEST THREAD EVER!

You are a great pap - I wish I had you around when I was little and pining over Speed Racer. Great work and what fantastic memories you made for your family. My hat and heart to you.

Thanks Jet! What is next?

- A very screen accurate yet very lightweight backpack!
- I'm going to rig up some sort of hose extension in which at the top will be a small house with some of those small balloons attached to the top. It supposed to give the illusion of pulling the house.
- A line that will be hooked up to Russell. Consider it a modified leash for a 3 year old!:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol
- See if we can borrow someones Golden Retriever for a photoshoot!:lol

Great results, buddy! But you're right about the mustache and goatee, though...I'm glad you're gonna take that plunge with the next version.

As for the garden hose upgrade, here's my take: Wrap up your torso with the same makeshift harness pattern Carl uses about halfway through the movie....but with enough slack to be able to slip it off your arms and down your waist. Trim off the excess, leaving about three inches (which would stop right behind your head). Thread a stretched out coat hanger into the end that you cut off far enough into the hose to remain vertical. Use some Apoxie sculpt or Sculpey to fix the thin wire to the thick hose and sand until the two diameters transition smoothly. Construct the house out of thin cardboard or even stiff paper and stick the end of the coat hanger through the porch (where the hose winds) and up through the center of the house and out the chimney...there should be about 4 inches of coat hanger coming out the top of the chimney. Top that with an Sculpey balloon. Then, using thinner wire, create the rest of the strings and top them with balloons made out of a lighter material (paper wrapped with a layer of masking tape?). Afterwards, paint the coat hanger coming out of the chimney white and the coat hanger coming out the porch green.

Quick question: How did you make the Ellie badge? I assume it's a waterslide decal on a white bottle cap. If this is so, do you think you can post the graphic you used? As a broke student, I'm always looking for cute (but inexpensive) gifts for my lady and she'd absolutely LOVE an Ellie badge of her own.
