I've really been enjoying the re-release of the 80's GI Joe comices from IDW. When getting ready to preorder the next TBP that comes out the end of this month I stumbled across this at TWAF.com:

Looks like old Larry is picking up right where the old series left off. Pretty sweet.

The '80s live on in this all-new series that spins out of the FCBD issue 155-1/2 and hearkens back to the beloved JOE comics from your childhood! Larry Hama returns to script Real American Hero even as COBRA wins the bid to provide internal security for a terrorist-beleaguered USA. First order of business: put out a secret...

Wow, that's cool. I loved what Devil's Due did with the series, some really great stories that took up the Marvel Characters in real time after the original series ended.

So, wait a sec.

We now have how many continuations of the Marvel series?

- IDW

- Devil's Due

- and now this?

I suppose I'll only really consider the Hama continuation the official one. That and whatever else he says is canon. I guess this doesn't necessarily HAVE to conflict with the later stuff, if Hama can work out his stuff as an "interquel", but damn...this is getting confusing!

I'm sticking with the MArvel/IDW series. :) I would like to take a look at the Origins series but I won't collect those.

I've yet to get on board with the new IDW stuff. I've enjoyed the various incarnations over the last few years, for the most part, but I'm very excited to see Mr. Hama picking up where he left off!

All in all though, they'll never replace the 80s Marvel run in my heart. I LOVE that they're all finally being collected by IDW. Marvel releasing just 5 volumes a few years back was a crock. I wonder if they'll collect these new ones under the "classic" banner as well?

It won't look right unless it's done on old-fashioned paper and old fashioned color.

It is nice that every other month I know I'll have a trip down memory lane. I will say though the last volume had a lot of mistakes both in spelling and just using the wrong word.

I was wondering about that too...did they redo the lettering or something? They were mis-spellings that would happen from misreading letters such as seeing FUN as FLIN. Odd.
