NEW New 52 Batgirl

So I'm going to NYC Comic-Con as the Red Hood and my fiancee is going as Batgirl. Right before we started looking into things, they announced the new Batgirl design. Which of course thrilled us. We just received the jacket so here are a few pictures.

Hey, folks. As you can see, we've hit a bit of a slow point while we wait for certain materials to arrive and look for others. One thing we're struggling with is attaching the bat symbol. Katie doesn't really want it on there permanently as she's hoping for the jacket to be something she can wear normally. I say that the bat symbol looks awesome for a day-to-day basis, but she disagrees. Anyone have any thoughts on how to temporarily attach a bat symbol onto the faux leather?

crazy strong double sided tape? the only danger would be pulling some of the faux leather off when detaching it....

For something that is going to come off clean and/or leave the jacket unmodified, tape is really your best bet. I would look into poster tape, which is usually double-sided, but just make sure it is the kind designed to come away from the wall cleanly.

Also, I would leave the symbol detached until you are putting on the costume to wear for *insert reason here.* Then attach the symbol. That way, the jacket is already conformed to the dimensions of her body, thus the symbol will follow suit when attached, and pulling/stretching of symbol/jacket will be reduced.

a good plus to having it removable is that the symbol can be one solid piece if you want it to. No more zipperbreak!

You could use magnets to hold it on... Rare earth magnets mounted to the inside of the bat and then secured on the inside of the coat.

I agree with stormtrooperguy - magnets would be my suggestion. You can attach little pouches/pockets to the inside of the jacket (glue/tape?) to ensure the magnets will be in the right spot. Then you're not doing anything to the outside of the jacket. I'd be really concerned about adhesive residue if you're taping it on.

Though I do agree with you that having it permanently attached would be awesome for everyday wear anyways! ;)

So I've assembled her cowl. I modified JF Customs' Captain America foam helmet. As you can see, I am not good with foam. I'm debating making the ears bigger. Although, because she doesn't seem to really care too much about the project and because I have less than a week, I might just start plasti dipping the thing.

Nice timing, they fixed the app

Looks good enough to me. Plastdip the thing! I always think it's better to have the costume finished than to make yourself late because of smaller details.
