New dredd movie lawgiver build

Yeah no worries mate , I'm changing the rear end a bit at the moment so the final version will look a bit different to the earlier pics but you can get a rough idea from there.

I used various thicknesses of styrene (aka plasticard) sheet from 1mm up to 3mm and its layered in some areas. I get mine from a seller on e bay as he does packs with various thicknesses and also packs of seconds too.
Can't post links here I think but search for seller station road baseboards or styrene sheet and you should find him. I also used a bit of sintra ( aka signboard) here and there . It's softer than styrene though so does mark easily if you dig a fingernail into it.

Thanks for that. I haven't worked with Styrene, but I assume you can fold it by use of a heat gun. Looking for ward to much trial & many errors in the future :)

Yes it can be heat formed . I did it on this build , made a wooden former and fixed it to the top edge with screws then heated and bent it around the former.

Or if you have a nice mate with a vac former ......

Re the use of heat... I assume there are 2 methods; ether p**s off the other half and have the oven smell of plastic, or use a heat gun?

So which heat gun do you recommend for this kind of stuff, or for craft work in general?

H.

Yeah not popular if done in the oven !! Lol

I just have a wickes heat gun , works fine and has 2 heat settings . Most important is to keep it moving so it heats evenly along the bend area or you'll get warping . It takes a little while to get to the right temperature but you'll see it suddenly start to soften so then you need to be quick when folding it. I used a bit of timber to fold it down with as well so it kept it as flat as possible over the former. You can reheat again if needed.

Chers, was checking a few out on Ebay. I take it a paint stripper heat gun would do, although I seen this one, and thought the price was reasonable

Yeah that'll do the trick , if it blows up dont blame me though ;)

Oh forgot to say make sure you do it in a well ventilated area ...away from children and animals ...wearing all appropriate safety gear ....oh and fire extinguishers dont forget them :cool

I'm the biggest kid in the house. Just made it past the glue stick, glitter & safety scissors.

What could possibly go wrong???

Molds all done and I built my first one at the brit sci fi weekend , made around a springer airsoft. Painted the glock with etching primer and the black adhered really well.

Please put me down for a kit, as & when. Your level of detail is fantastic, considering this is hand-carved, etc. Blown away by the work here, full stop, but yours is one of - if not THE - best I've seen, of the "build around" variety.

One question though - and, please, do excuse me if it comes across as dumb - but, owing to my work, I can't afford to get this wrong. How do you get round the VCRA, re painting your airsofts up in black? Is it a "don't ask, don't tell" policy, or have you guys, experienced in RP et al, found those nice LE types to be understanding of the RP area of things?

Many thanks and, once again, definitely put me down for one (maybe two) of these when they come to kit form.

:)

Since i PM'd you back then tango'd I have been keeping an eye out for this build. Hopefully if you have the time, could i possibly get a kit off you. I dont care the price lol i have to have a lawgiver......HAVE TO! XD
