new 52/man of steel hybrid

Greetings all.
This is my first try at this so i figured I'd try to mod an existing suit instead of making one from scratch(though I hope to try that soon enough).
So I ordered one of the new designed zentai suits( that are collared and lack the red trunks). Got it in today and it fits pretty good.(glad I've been working out) it comes with built in glove, which I will cut off, and I will use the cape that came with it for material to add the red piping around the cuffs and collar. I will airbrush the designs from the Man of Steel outfit( the stuff that goes up the side), and add some musculature. I haven't found a pattern I can use to add texture and might not do that anyway. I will decide afterwards if I want to keep the slick look or add a textured pattern. The cape I will be making from scratch as the cape that came with it was way too small. And I will also airbrush the belt to look more like the present comics version and the boots as well. Lastly I will take some water shoes or slippers and taking them apart to put in/on the boots so I can actually walk around in them.
My mother-in-law is sewing the cuffs andcollar for me(bless that woman) and I will be sewing the cape andsplitting the airbrush work with a friend. Since I want the muscularity to match my body I will let my friend do it while I am wearing it then I will add the detail work(and texturing?).
Pica to follow shortly after I get started.

Does anyone have a good reference for the design work going up from the belt area on Man of Steel suit?
I've tried google searching but there are no good side shots. I would like this to look as close as I can.

Sorry for the lack of progress report. We have an airbrush malfunction so I didn't get to do any if the detail work I wanted to do. I did get the boots soled, unfortunately I should have gotten a size smaller and I ended up trying to trim them down to match. I tried using a marker to add the new 52 details to the boots and belt, it doesn't look good. I will probably just cut out the belt area and add a real belt.
I'm definately going to keep working on it, but it served for taking my kids trick r treating. I would like to get it finished and wear it to a con.

Here are some pics of my materials and the finished look.

We have the base costume I started with.

A shot of the cuffs and neckline after alteration.

The shoes I dismantled and attached to the boots.

And the cape I made from scratch. The pleats turned out pretty good, but it shortened it more than I wanted, but now I know how to do it better next time.

And some shots of me and the family halloween. That's my daughter as Batgirl, my son as Green Lantern, and my wife as a generic Wonder Woman. We even got the dog in on the action with a little cape as Krypto the Superdog :)

There is a lot I'd like to do better, but as I said this was my first attempt. If I can get my airbrush working I will come back to this build and do some more, but for now it made for a fun halloween with the kids and I'm good with that.

Always cool to see another Super family! Looks like you guys had a great time. Like you plan to, I also had an airbrush artist paint my suit based off of my build so it really moved well. Our photos are in my album under Family Of Steel if you're interested. What aqua shoes did you end up using for your suit?

I saw yours, really liked it, its always fun when the whole family is involved. My son is the reason I got into costuming, he loves dressing up and playing superheroes and I wanted to have better costumes than what is available at costume stores without having to shell out $300-$400.

I got a no-name pair of aqua shoes from Academy for $2. They worked well. The soles came off pretty easily. Put the shoe inside the costume and glued the sole on with E-6000 adhesive.

My sons are my reason for going all out too. :) Cool, thank you for the aqua shoe info. I will have to give it a try on my next suit. :thumbsup

No problem man. Its a good way to keep a form fitting boot for superhero costumes and it looks better than boot covers. Its east to do as well, you may need a heat-gun to remove the soles, just remember to heat them up through the soles and not the shoe part as it can melt. It also works with plim-soled house shoes or slippers, they also hold shape better. I used aqua-shoes because they are cheaper and easier to work with. Also with aqua shoes judge size by the sole not the regular fit. The shoe will stretch with you foot, but the sole will overhang your foot if you get it to big. That is not really an issue with house shoes or slippers, as I said they hold their shape better.
