Long time no post thought I would share test eyes for a new project I am working on just to see if my materials will work and are compatible . So far a success !!! These are my first time doing a sculpted iris so this was a great learning tool to see what does and does not work for my project . Hope you like !:) DSC01883.JPGphoto.JPGbest 1.JPG

Now that is scary good! Not an eye you'd want looking at you from close range. :lol

The eyes were just screw around paint jobs and the eye forms themselves are not really meant to be raptor eyes ...but ....they were the test for the raptor eyes in a sense..lol...will be sculpting and making them soon as well . Heres a preview of the Raptor myself and my business partner are working on . Shes an excellent sculptor as well so its nice to team up on a project so big and be able to have someone to pick up the slack..lol.

These are, hands down, the best eyes I've ever seen! Just....WOW

Couple questions though:
-How thick is the clear on those? I read the Crystal Clear 202 is supposed to be a max thickness of 1/2"?
-Is there anything else out there that would look as good and not be so....toxic? I was reading the safety sheet on this stuff, and I certainly don't have an appropriate work space with proper ventilation and a respirator like they recommend

The clear was a test for mechanical issues but it was at least 1" thickness . I was pushing the limits on the 202 to see what I could do . The cleared eye looks cool but in the future would never clear the lens that thick . In the future if I do something that big I would switch to their slower setting clear most likely . I dont think humans have invented a water clear durable resin thats not highly toxic that looks as good . You really have to have the right equipment to pull this off bubble free which includes a respirator , pressure pot , and vacumm degasser and just plain old practice . Thanks for the compliment !

In a day or so I will post a lion / creature style eye using another clearcoat method with 2k urathane like what is on your car . Its a beautiful finish like glass and it fairly cheap and durable but to give the eyes depth you have to be a good painter since you dont get a deep lens to fall back on . I just spray it on with a cheap Harbor Freight HVLP gun 3-4 coats and color sand and buff just like a car . Works awesome for certain creatures, not every eye has to have a deep clear lens to be cool looking .
