I've done several graflex clamp sabers. I reccomend you cut a section of drain pipe (22g. I think) You can get it in brass or chrome at Home Depot. It will take up the slack perfectly.

Using duct tape will leave a film on the metal if you ever try and remove it. Especially if left on for a long time. I say this from experience lol

But WD-40 or Goo Gone should get it off.
