so i'm new to the prop making world and wanted to take a crack at making my very own for the first time. i just need a few pointers and suggestions as far as to what direction i should take.

i need to make a fully articulated gauntlet.
where i am able to move my hand and fingers.
some flexibility in the wrist but not to important.
most likely only need 4 fingers so aiming to joining my pointer finger and middle finger, or my middle finger and index finger ( haven't made up my mind on which would be more comfortable)
i was thinking of cheating and using a hockey glove as a base and then building off of that but then realized it might be more expensive going that route and maybe even adding more of a job to modifying it to suit my needs.

some of the reference pics i have been looking at

this is a picture of the mezco lion-o glove which i think is hands down the best 3D adaptation of this glove

never worked with eva foam so i am not sure how hard it would be to carve it or if eva foam is even the best choice to go with ot even if using a hockey glove as a base would be a good idea. but i hope you better experienced guys can make some great suggestions

I will keep watch here, I still have the original figures from my childhood, gotta love the 80's. :)

this is a build i have been planning in my head for about 2 years now, not i want to make it happen because my plans have been pushing me towards it! the 80's are the best and thundercats was my all time favorite, the mods and features i wanna add to this will make it a hit i hope and i haven't seen anyone make an actual good claw shield but i have seem some hell of a good sword of omens so figured i'd take a crack at the shield

hope people on here can help out

168 views and no one has come in to suggest anything? i guess i'm just going to have to go on a trial and error kind of venture which i didn't want to go but screw it i've been dying to do this.

The best thing I can think of is to start with a mold of your arm, the after making a cast of your are you can use clay to make the shield. Then mold that and combine the cast of your arm and the mold of the shield and fill the void with foam latex. That will give you a flexible shield that you can move your fingers in.

I wouldn't make this in foam. I'd go the route misfit has suggested.

You'll get the best result sculpting/molding/casting it.

The current show has a gauntlet look would work with EVA foam or sheet plastic.
The classic looks like fur. That would be pretty fast to make. Just add some fake fur to a glove, and add some gems.

im going for the classic claw shield being the fact that the modern version didn't even survive to continue and plus i'm from the 80's.

misfits methods does sound kind of good but also involve a lot more work. . . i have a few ways of doing this planed out in my head so i guess i'm just going to have to try a few out and see what works best.

I know this is an old post but this is something I've been working over in my head for a while. im going to start putting together a bunch of reference and was thinking felt for the outer covering. Deciding on the surface material seems to be the hardest decision for me.

So, just caught the nostalgia bug. I have the toy from the 2000's but I'm looking to make my own versions of both. I plan on doing the mold/recast/mold method misfit said. My only thing is I would like a material that would be reusable, since I think this will be a one-off. I will keep posted on my progress.
