FROM OTHER THREAD TAZVADER WROTE:

Ok folks just a small update

The first 5 covers are coming hot off the press. Might I say they look AMAZING!!!!! lol Mars is going to take some nice pics tonight and post them after he has had a bit more of a fiddle.....no-one will be dissapointed with these babies Remember this is the covers.......

Now the bad news... because of the time involved in putting together each individual book, we are going to be doing VERY limited runs. Basically we want a very definite timeline from payment to you having your item in your hand. I detest interest lists and would rather have the item ready and out the door as soon as payment is recieved.

We are unsure as to how many we will be doing but the first run will consist of only 5 books. No more no less. Stay tuned for the pics.........they will knock your socks off!!!!!!!

Hi everyone , here is what Taz and me have been doing........
About the book:
6 months ago Chris and me discussed a possible BOS , we talked and came up with a lot of ideas and stories. As I said before , the original replica of the BOS is currently sold by the owner for $5000. We cannot duplicate that book.
instead Chris took the job of rewriting the entire book from scratch, over 70 stories, all original , fun , some funny , interesting , pure genious.
You could say this could of very well been used in the movie.
ALL STORIES IDEAS are found as the per the movie book maybe even some extra ones , just completely different.
We also asked "Indy Magnoli " to put an entry in here, so be prepared to find
his talents in the form of a common story and some custom inserts made by him.
Mark Raats, another member , friend and a well respected artist whose work is beyond "incredible" has also provided us and the book with original artwork used in the Roswell story.
Todd (turboman) helped and supplied us with inserts/photos etc.

There are a few more people that have given us permission to use their original artwork, these people , I will mention as we get closer to the end.

The book cover is made from a thick hide, weathered using oils and treated.
The presidential seal has been reproduced , artwork redone and burnt on to the leather.
Buttons are cold casted with real bronze for weight and color.
All stories will be handwritten then scanned, printed and aged.
ALL pages will be debossed with the presidential seal and/or stamped with it.
Notary embossed seals were also made for documents/letters.
We had these made so you would get an original page not just a print.
We have over 70 inserts maybe more than what was on the original, but we may not use all in the book.
Our newspaper front pages are copies from originals and are full pages not book size.
All photos are individually printed by a photographic shop not at home.
Again all photos will bear the emblemm stamped AFTER printing.
We have not taken shortcuts to make this ,we spent a lot of money and time.

There is still the painstaking job of assembling, that is why 5 books are only going to be for sale now and a very small amount after that, this is due to the cost the leather which was astronomical , time already spent and still the cost of assembling it. Professional book binding is also included.
We have not taken any money from anyone to do this nor will we until all components are ready.
I have removed costings as per forum rules , will initiate a sale thread soon in the junkyard.

It has taken 6 months and actually between my construction work and Christians homw away work , I think we have done well.

I cannot paste here all the pages but since we have already shown to some of you the TITANIC page , here it is again.
Also a schematic drawn and proivided by Ramiel for the sonic gun.
Another work of art!!!
Pics of the leather as I got it today, fold , trim and further ageing to be done.
It will have some torn edging.
Cheers everyone
Marcel

September 13 1982

It is my unfortunate duty that not only must I know of this book and its contents. But because I must write an entry. Not just for the sake of posterity but also for the future protection and prosperity of this, our great nation.

In 1910, our then President, William Taft learned through our various international contacts of a meteor that had crashed in Austria. (Refer Pres’ Taft’s 2nd entry) That precious cargo was eventually to be shipped to these United States by liner. A 46,000 tonne liner to be accurate. Needless to say the cargo never arrived. But that was of no concern to us at the time as the ship in question was one RMS Titanic. So at least if we could not secure the element for our country and the security of the free world, at least it would be safe from any nefarious elements.

Since April 1912 this surety and peace of mind has been unknowingly kept, unbeknownst to everyday Americans.

Until today. On this day I received a file on my desk containing pictures taken by one of the Navy’s deep sea submersibles. The intention of this seemingly innocent exploratory mission was to locate the Titanic’s lower cargo area and if possible raise the element from the depths. Investigation shows the ship to be broken into at least two pieces. But on further study of its superstructure and original schematics, it has come to light that it is not the Titanic lying on the ocean floor. But is in reality her identical twin sister...the Olympic!

Although nameplates and markings and other details had been changed enough to fool the casual observer. It is indeed, undenialably the Olympic.
Our analysts have discovered that it was not an opposing nation or regime that had orchestrated this switch. But greed. Our first thought was the incentive was to steal the ore. But it was really an attempt to defraud the company insuring the two ships. A desperate hoax gone horribly wrong. Somewhere in the changeover the element was apparently misplaced. We believe the changeover took place whilst both ships were in drydock on March 6 1912. The Olympic had at that time lost a propeller. So the Titanic was moved in order for it to be replaced.

I have authorised the continuation of this subterfuge. For all intents and purposes the “Titanic” will remain unreachable at the bottom of the North Atlantic. The element still seemingly unreachable to our enemies.

We must keep it so until we can locate the cargo. It is likely to be either stored in some dusty warehouse where no knowledge of its actual value is known. Or even dumped somewhere as a useless ore.....somewhere.

All efforts are being made by this administration to find it and it is my wish that this search continue until it is found.
Pres. Ronald Regan

Wow, fantastic! :)

Might be a stupid question, but can you go into a little more detail on how you managed those buttons?

Re: National treasure book of secrets pics

there are no stupid questions , just annoying lol
no just joking.
I was able to find these civil war buttons , after making themold,
you pour resin and bronze powder, 50/50 and i think it is called cold casting.
when you polish it with steel wool , the brass shows up through.
You can do this with alloy , brass bronze etc. They would sell this at any casting place.
alloy being the cheapest and bronze not so cheap, hope this helps

Sweet thanks for that.

...and for my follow up annoying question, Do you know of any online casting supply places downunder? It gets pretty expensive shipping stuff from the US, (if they'll do it), as i'm sure you are aware. :)

Re: National treasure book of secrets pics

Looking good! :thumbsup Question: Is the leather going to be left as rough edge or will it be folded over?

Might be a stupid question, but can you go into a little more detail on how you managed those buttons?
I found very similar buttons at Walmart in packs of three. It's the standard crest though, with the eagle is holding arrows, not the scrolls. If you changed the sculpt to a scroll, then that is actually much cooler. :)

Re: National treasure book of secrets pics

Well, this has me totally gobsmacked! :confused
Mates, I knew you would be pulling out the stops, but it seems to me that you have gone way beyond even that.

I had a discussion recently regarding the definition of the word 'artist' and the ever modest Mars felt that what they were doing could in no way be considered 'art'...!

Once again (and for the record), I have to strongly disagree, because its my opinion that this type of item is as much a work of art as is a perfectly painted canvas or portrait of Indiana Jones or John F. Kennedy.

Its a marvelous thing to see such God-given skill so perfectly wielded and fabulous to know that the fruits of months of work will be shared amongst the rest of us mortals.

Warmest congratulations Gentlemen ....

Re: National treasure book of secrets pics

Mark , no my hat off to you!!!
thank you for your support.
Missileman , pm me what you need , i may be able to send it from Melbourne, surely there is a place in Brisbane.
Leather has to be folded still , and the buttons pics are so small that the 2 arrows the eagle is holding look like a scroll , but yes they are arrows.
and Kalkamel ..... page 47? what page 47?;)

Re: National treasure book of secrets pics

Yes....only 5. We have lives lol There is an in depth explaination in the other thread as to why. But thanks for the nice words folks......

Kramstaar.....thanks for the encouragement and support. I am blushing. I am sure Mars would too if he actually had that ability...he he

There is a hugely ingenious idea for page 47 and that's all I can say......lol

Re: National treasure book of secrets pics

really Taz? what is the great idea for the page???:lol
Is it related to national treasure 3?

as far as the five go, and considering the price that it costs, I am not sure what the actual BUYING list would be.
On that note I have removed the price of the opening statement on this thread to comply with forum rules, I was made aware of this politely by one of our mods.
I do apologise , Chris will make a new thread in the junkyard when all components are finished, but please feel free to ask any questions other than to view written material. Naturally you have to understand , this is also done to protect the possible buyers money/investment.
Thank you again
mars

Re: National treasure book of secrets pics

This is a very exciting thread and I'm really looking forward to seeing the final results.

After watching the movie and thinking about it, I imagined that the book was handed down from one president to the next. Either physically or one President would tell the next the history of the book and it's current location. I've wondered what happened in cases where the President died in office. It's happened eight times. Have you guys given that any thought?

Mike

Looking awesome, I was just looking at photos of the books made for the movie by Ross McDonald yesterday and then saw this thread.

Brilliant indeed and I'd love something like that.
