My Wested Indy jacket, 8 years later.

My Wested is now 8 years old. I did some pretty minor artifical weathering with very, very fine sandpaper. That's about it though. Most of what you see here is just from wearing it often, and not being scared to do anything in it (and I mean even working on my car), as evidenced by the condition of the lining. Except for the end of the sleeves, the stitching has held up incredibly well. I'm going to need to have the lining replaced eventually. I'm hesitant though. I've grown pretty fond of the shredded look.

The rest of the costume is Noel Howard/Alden/Herbert Johnson (ordered from and prepared by Mr. Swales himself. Which is why I've never had the nerve to dirty it up or change the pinch or the shape of the hat, etc.)

My two creations. Yeah, I know, Indy needs a shave.... Need a mannequin to replace me as the display.

I LOVE those jackets, I think I need a better job, so I can afford one of these masterpieces :D
Great "distressing" BTW... :lol

Excellent Jacket. This is the prop probably at the very top of my list.

Is it Sheep or Goatskin?

Anyone care to educate me on the difference between the skins?

It's the dark brown lambskin. That was the standard then. I'm not sure what the "standard" is now. I think it might be the "authentic brown lambskin". Anyone know for sure?

Actually the Originals, and I am assuming PnatheraGem's is Lamb as Peter only within the last 3 years has started doing Goatskin, were lambskin.

Lambskin is more supple and softer then Goatskin.

Goatskin is a more durable hide than lamb.

I have a Navy G-2 Goat Flight Jacket that has been through Monsoons, snowstorms, hail storms, bar and street fights and it still looks like the day I bought it 26 years ago.. :lol

Sheepskin jackets are a whole different ballgame, ie Dennis Weavers's " McCloud" or the Jackets worn in "Memphis Belle".

Depending on who makes them they can be very nice.

I used to wear mine in some pretty cold temps with out even zipping mine up it was so plush.

It was modeled after the one Gen. George Patton used to wear

Have you ever considered sending the jacket back to Wested to get it re-lined? The leather still looks great, but the lining is falling apart.

Mine is about that old now. It still has the light brown color to it, but the lining is coming apart especially at the ends of the sleeves. I thought about having it redone locally, but might send it back to Wested to have done since they only installed the female part of the snaps on the pockets. :)

I would replace the inside. It looks like your neck got into a fight with Wolverine. I never liked this jacket, but the craftmanship still is unique.

They did that to you too? :lol I sent it back to them. They gave me the option to either send it back to them ort to have the studs mailed to me and then take it to a seamstress and then send thme the bill.
