After a year of looking and studying from the creator son this forum I think it is time for me to build my RED HOOD suit. I am going to go with a vest type chest amor design idk if someone already did it but I was really inspired by many. But I really want to thanks blackkaos for the red hood pep file for the helmet I couldn't have really got started with out his file so I will be posting pics of the pep helmet and the sketches for the suit I have in mind. I'm also not new at costuming but I'm still a novice lol

Also if you guys have pointers or any ideas I'm open for suggestions

where did you find that pep file? I'm going to NYC comic con as red hood this year and lets just say my first attempt at making a helmet didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I'm looking for a file that might have fewer fold but I can only find that same file I already have. On another note the sketches and everything look awesome. good luck!

ah. Do you know if he is still selling them? I message him the other day and haven't heard anything so maybe he's just not selling them anymore.

Well I'm not sure I had his thread saved on my computer incase I ever wanted to buy one of his others pep files but it was closed. But I take that back I found the thread where he sales them just look on his file it lead you to his peep files page

That's the new BlackKaos pep files location. Like the day I bought my pep supplies was when the original thread was deleted, so I panicked a bit. And I have a question about working with the pep. When you finished assembling the helmet, was it able to fit over your head or did you have to trim part of it?

I actually had to trim part of the chin area for my head could fit but I left enough to still look like a nice clean chin area lol but yes once you add the resin I do recomend cutting a portion of the chin just enough to fit

Also for those that have or are checking on my project can you guys/gals help me on how the foam for the armor should be in term of thickness I bought from target exercise foam mats but when I look at other foams projects it looks thinner. I also bought foam sheets for detailing purpose. So again my question how think does it have to be? I'm scared I bought it too think

I haven't updated my post but here a small update in the helmet I been busy with work so I bearly got time to resin the helmet and made a little stand for it:) also finished the gauntlets ima try to post the pics of that as well

Heya beast,

Looks like you have the right color going, plenty of vision space in the eyes, and the overall shape of the helmet is on point. If you are satisfied with the helmet, then I'd say you are all done.

But since you asked for suggestions: Your finish could be a big smoother. I recommend sanding this coat of paint down once it has dried, using sandpaper in the 400-600 grit range. That will help round out the dome some more. Also, I see some paint drip lines in the 4th photo of your most recent post, which means either the surface was too glossy to hold the paint as well as it should, or you may have been holding the can a little close to the mask. Sanding down that top layer will not only help you round out some of those edges, but it will also create a rougher surface to provide better paint adhesion for your next paint application. It's looking really good! Those are just my suggestions on finishing it if you are not quite satisfied yet.

Thanks Vox and yeah I figured as much but didn't know how to go about giving. A little more of a better finish. The only thing that going to give me a bit of an issue is the helmet lining with black. But again thanks I really enjoy getting feed back

This is about your gauntlet. I have no experience myself with it, but I have heard that other cosplayers use a material called worbla in making armor. I don't know if this helps but it is just a suggestion. You can find the material on amazon.com, plus you will need a heat gun to manipulate it.
