My Rorschach costume for the movie :)... Post yours!

Left epaulet sticks up in the film, indeed.

I was considering getting my coat dyed and shortened, but I'm not sure how much it would cost. Still wondering about that.

Anyone found a good source for Rorschach-like fedoras? I'm getting mighty sick of my cheap, black hat, haha.

Something that always bothered me about Rorschach's coat was that the left epaulet was always sticking up at that funny angle. I think everyone else has theirs neatly pinned down.

It was sticking up in the book... it's just one of those little details so that he's not just a guy in a trenchcoat, and helps to sell the fact that the guy is little more than a vigilante hobo in the larger scheme of things.

My costume is almost complete, one of the last things I need to do is get my coat the proper (movie version) colour. I can't find a single clothes dyeing service in my city, what should I do? I've heard of the method of simply throwing the piece of clothing in the washing machine with the dye, but I get the feeling that could produce varying results.

Depends on what the fabric being dyed is. If it's cotton or a high percentage cotton mix, it'll be fine. If it's mostly synthetic such as polyester the dye won't take. My own trenchoat was a cotton/polyester mix but with a higher cotton percentage. It dyed really well with a washing machine dye. Luckly enough the coat also had a rubber backing (showerproofing) to it, so I was able to apply a few coats of Barbour wax proofing to it to give it the movie look.

The tag on my coat says it's 65% polyester, gorram it. It's such a nice coat, I was hoping to give it the nice movie colour.

what is the best dye to use on a cotton trench coat?
to get that movie Rorschach look.

I thought I'd post my costume the way it is now, it's the best I can get it. I recently received my awesome thermochromic mask from Kwally89, so all I need do now is add a purple ribbon to the hat. Not sure how I'll do it, but I'll try (the hat is brown, but it looks green in the photo for some odd reason).

The ribbon isn't purple. It's brown but with the modern ribbons they have a higher rayon content that makes it shine and give off that tint that you see.

Oh, fantastic. Thanks for the information. So should I look for a brown ribbon? How should it be fitted, should I just find a local place that would do it for me, or shouldn't it be too difficult?

Depends if you want the ribbon to be SA bow or not. I try and copy the bow work that they did on the movie but I clean up what they did. It was put on kinda sloppy.
