My proton pack

Built in five days using a limited amount of power tools and space this is my Ghostbusters proton pack. There's not many photos of the gun yet as it's missing a trigger box, and will eventually be getting replaced, but some of the features of the proton pack are as follows:

This is what I would consider my first movie pack, I've built two other proton packs of custom design that were far from superior works, but I really would have to say this is my first pack.

P.S. Some of you might notice the clippard valve missing from the thrower, this has of course been fixed since these shots were taken. Take care to note that the thrower is *not* the final version for this pack. It uses GBII style banjos instead of the first film's style. This thrower (which is now signed by Dan Aykroyd) will be mounted for display while a new thrower is being constructed for this pack.

Yes, five days. I wanted to get the pack completed in time for the release of Ghostbusters the Video Game (one of my two jobs is working at Gamestop). Well, it took a lot longer than I thought to get certain parts so when I had everything in the end it was really down to the line. I worked in shifts of roughly 20 hours, sleeping for four hours a day. Of course there was other time cut out for meal breaks and trips to the hardware store for adhesives or more screws. So I guess I didn't sleep much.

Looney - I have one layer of the hammered Rest-O-Lium, I used black. I then covered it with two layers of flat black, the weathering was achieved with powder and the silver with rub and buff applied by finger.

It was a lot of fun building this, and it being a Ghostbusters pack and not a Ghostbusters II pack it has some really unique parts on it. I hope to start another pack within the year, but I have some other things I want to do first (like some Spat Armor).

We shall see.

Well, I wasn't going to name names, but I can also assure you other parts had come in late. I did learn an important lesson, don't have time lines for props just enjoy the process and have fun. (And yes, it was a lot of fun!)

I WANT ONE!! wow, that does look great! especially if you completed it in 5 days!! I am looking to put together a female ghostbusters outfit to match Beeb89's for Halloween this year. This is very encouraging to me, maybe I can get one done too...it will probably take me 5 months though...

Lookin' good! What (who) did you use for a motherboard? It lines up well with Exoray's V71 MX Fiberglass Shell.

It's a standard MMM Alum Mobo. It didn't line up at first, and I ended up hacksawing/grinding/cutting the hell out of it. It still doesn't match in places but I'm okay with it as the movie Mobo didn't match up perfectly either.

MrsBeeb - I highly recommend trying your hand at one. Whether it is a scratch build or a "kit" style build. The proton pack has been something I've wanted since I was three years old running around my house in my little Kenner toy proton pack. And for its size it seems a bit over whelming at first, but sticking to your guns (and always asking questions!) can really yield some amazing results. And in the end, you'll feel very VERY attached to it. Owning a few props I know this single unit I have the most affection for as it has the most of my blood sweat and tears in it.

I definitely want one by October. Beeb has one that he built from scratch and that is his pride and joy. I didn't think a whole lot of it until he wore it one Halloween and I saw him in the whole outfit with all the lights and sounds. People would not leave him alone when we went out that night! It was crazy! I had to keep people from putting their hands all over it!! He has it on display in his livingroom. You can't miss it when you walk in his front door. I tried his on but it is built from wood and is way too heavy. Plus he is 6'4" and I am 5'5". I think I would like to find/build one to fit my frame that I can comfortably wear. Can these be down-scaled for women? Have you weighed the finished pack? I am curious how heavy it is.

My pack is roughly 30 pounds or more. I haven't done an official weigh in since I finished it. However, there's no reason that you can't take Stefan's plans and scale them in any size you want. Maybe a 3/4ths proton pack would be up your ally. And using styrene for construction would greatly reduce the over all weight.

Yep, I am also on that guilty list but I think some parts were worth the wait. Pack turned out fantastic. Even more impressive details when seen in person.
