Update :

Thanks to RPF user "Pobbrett", I was able to get almost the same matches for the matchbooks.

Looking at the screenused one,
I came to the conclusion that my matchbooks where too big.

So I had to adjusted the size of the matchbook.
Now it's the same size as the screenused one.

Hello everyone.

I wanted to share with you my latest project.

I decided to make a Back To The Future prop :

BIFF's Matchbooks from Back To The Future Part II

Since I didn't find anyone making them on the forum,
I decided to make them myself using these reference pictures I found on the internet :

I worked with Adobe Photoshop to recreate the font for the text.

The brown strip is from a real matchbook and inside are real matches.

I didn't find the exact matches to use.
In the Pleasure Paradise screenshot if you look at the side of the matchbook,
you can see that they have white match heads.
The ones I used have black sticks and golden match heads.

Once I find the right matches I will update my prop.
I'll post a picture of the matches I used later today.

Here are the pictures, please let me know what you think :

Greetings,
Soxbrother

VERY COOL PIECE! That wasn't something I thought about trying to add to my collection. Thanks for sharing!

Those look really great! I once bought a set of Biff matches from ebay and they were awful, i never did put them with the rest of my collection.

I hope you offer these in the junkyard.

The Matchbooks look great. For the inside you should use brighter matches. Here's a picture from screenused.com, where you can see one of the original props:

I know , but those are the only matches I found so far, at least in matchbook form.

I probably have to buy some online, until then it will be this version.

Thanks for the picture, I hadn't seen that yet.

Now I see another text-detail I don't have.

I wanted to do a run of the matchbooks, but to get them made accurately would have cost too much.

These matches look almost the same, compared to the screenused ones :

Those are probably the most accurate matches available now. :thumbsup
I've searched for the matches and I don't think the exact same ones are made anymore.

I think these look great for the Biff Matchbooks. Most people wouldn't notice the difference anyway. :lol

The staples appears to be full size, not mini staples.

Now that I've seen the screenused ones, I see that my matchbooks are too big.
I have 18 x 2 matches and the screenused 15 ( x2 ? )

The matchbook covers are the right size, but the matches are too wide.
When you get the white matches they will be perfect. :cool:thumbsup

Still waiting for this project from someone of you... :thumbsup

@great1:

Could you let me (or us) know, where you purchased your matchbooks? I know theres a seller on the bay from the UK who offer the matchbooks... I thought about 2/3 times to buy them, but if he's the seller with these poor quality matchbooks, I will wait and see what happens here...

I would have to make them myself, but I'm still considering making a run of these matchbooks if there's enough interest. They would still look about the same either way, it would just take longer to make them.

Here's another picture from screenused.com - there you can see a ruler next to the matchbook. So the dimensions of the closed matchbook should be 2 1/8 x 1 15/16 inch.

If you guys can wait and if you are interested, I would make a lenticular version of the matchbook sometime this year. Of course, such matchbooks will not be 100% prop accurate due to the glued lenticular film, but maybe it's a cool effect with the changing text. What do you think?

Thanks.

I saw that picture already earlier today on screenused.com
There are many pictures there of the matchbook.

That sounds cool.

Did you read my PM yet ?

Are you sure? Products from the category "Toys & Games" can be delivered to Belgium: Amazon.co.uk Help: Delivery Restrictions

Yep.

When I try to order them, the following text is displayed :

We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order by changing its quantity to 0 and clicking the update button below.

Here Amazon.co.uk Help: Delivery Restrictions it says :

Any product that contains flammable, pressurised, corrosive, environmentally hazardous or otherwise harmful substances are classified as dangerous goods.
Note: These products are not eligible for Express, Evening Delivery, or One-Day Delivery.

Si I guess it's because the matches are flammable :confused
So now I have to search somewhere else for my matches :(

These look great. I've seen some replicas on eBay but these seem much better quality. I may try making a set of these as my first "prop" build - prob best to stick to something small for a first attempt.
