My Necronomicon project. Ideas and opinions needed!

Hey all. I am a huge fan of Evil Dead saga and Lovecraft, and I am making my own Necronomicon since time ago. For the moment I made this:

Necro3.pngNecro4.pngNecro2.pngNecro1.png
THAT'S MY WORK BY NOW, I HAVE SOME PAGES MORE. OPINION IT'S WELCOME TO!

The legendary book was written with blood, so I used red ink and pen nib to make it. It was written by the mad arab Alhazred so I wrote it in arabic. No, I don't know, speak or writte neither absolutely anything of arabic so I used our friend Google and I also used a phonetic translation for the names or words that hasn't a direct translation.

The questions come now:

-First. The story says that some parts were burned by Inquisition, and that also was traslated in latin and then in english. If my english, like you see sucks so much, my latin obviously sucks more, but that is not the point. The point is: what would you do? You'll traslate the same text at the 3 languages and put together in the book like if the autors had add it taking away cover and putting again during the time and forgot the burning part? Will you half burn some pages and make older the first ones? Is "realistic" to put together the languages if we know that was bound in human skin the first time?

-Second. Making the covers. I am going crazy thinking in a material to make the cover. It must be flexible to avoid it break if falls and let it open it and not be too heavy. "Schlitzie" told me to use traslucid sculpey and airbrush, but I don't know much about sculpeys, airbrush and all that material, so I really don't have much idea of what to use, how mold it and how paint it (with normal brush if it is possible). The idea is to get something like this but with a simpler face 'cause I am newbie in this (the next images is not my work and I don't know who is the author, if I knew, I would also ask him/her too):

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE, IS NOT MINE. I PUT IT TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT I WANT.

Thanks all in advancve.

Propnomicon has done some very impressive sculpting of fake hearts & stuff using liquid latex. I have no experience with that, but a quick search of his blog for "latex" will turn up a couple tutorials.

I am very orthodox when it comes to 'my' Necronomicon, but you are of course free to 'remix' as you see fit. It is possible an owner, having acquired a damaged copy, might seek to supplement it with appropriate pages from other editions.

Here are HPL's canonical editions of the Necronomicon:

730 A.D. Al Azif written at Damascus by Abdul Alhazred

950 Translated into Greek as Necronomicon by Theodorus Philetas

1050 Burnt by Patriarch Michael (i.e., Greek text)

1228 Olaus translates Greek to Latin, Arabic text now lost

1232 Latin and Greek suppressed by Pope Gregory IX

14XX Black-letter Latin printed edition (Germany)

1500 to 1550 Greek text printed in Italy

1542 to 1609 English translation by Dee in manuscript, minimum 752 pages

16XX Spanish reprint of Latin text – MU copy is this edition according to Dunwich Horror
1692 Last sighting of Greek copy in Salem, Mass.
That's only current up to 1927. The events of recent times are omitted.

For all the quotes I could gather, see my post here: https://gndn.wordpress.com/2015/11/15/the-necronomicon-of-h-p-lovecraft/

I don't think many people could call you out on the bad Latin ;)

Or you could do as was done in The Ninth Gate and 'encipher' or abbreviate the Latin.

Additionally, you could look up old Arabic manuscripts in Google Image Search, and borrow from their layouts, as regards margins, lining, etc. Conversely, any manuscript Necronomicons floating around are unlikely to have been professionally illuminated / rubricated / etc.

I'm a huge fan of evil dead and the necronomicon myself. I have made a few replicas, Im in the process of redrawing all the pages from all 3 movies, the remake and the tv series by hand, 88 done and about 38 to go!
I sculpted my cover and cast it in resin, then covered it in real thin goatskin leather, I was happy with the results, I think it could work great for a simpler face design. Also it is flexible, won't crack like latex and looks and feels real. Here is a pic of one I made a few years ago.

Hey, thanks for the info. It is so helpful. I have questions for you if you please can answer.
I got the names of the translation in latin and in english, but looking at your info now I am doubting about if it is right.
Where do you got the historic translations? Do you have it up to 1927? What do you mean with "orthodox"? You didn't put it in arabic due it was lost or in latin due Pope Gregory suppressed it? Maybe I'll could put torn off pages. I still don't know how to "explain" how all the languages were bind together, maybe I'll put some in greek and latin: what I have clear is that I'll add "encipher" pages like you say before the language texts written by Lovecraft (the parts I have were made traslating texts of Lovecraft)
About to latex, I am not sure about how mould liquid latex or if I'll must to made a mould and then put the latex on it to make the cover.

This is an idea I didn't think and look awesome! But, resin won't be heavy or is so fragile? Thanks!

Thanks all guys! And come one others who didn't post yet! All ideas are welcome, more than 100 biews and only 3 posted to help!

the resin from my book was slightly heavy but it was strong. If I had to do it again, I would use a lighter resin.Resin comes in many varieties , so I'm sure you could find one that is light weight and really strong.
