My Lifesize Vader

I know it will pain some folks to see this, (since it is based on a dreaded costume company product) but I have never had a lifesize person/display before so I thought for this first one I would just try to get something cool for a good price. Then later if I want to upgrade parts I can. Having it already on display makes me more likely to actually upgrade it then if I just order parts an throw then in a box waiting for more. ANYWAY...

So for a grand total of $395 - here it is:rolleyes

I have a (stiff looking) but pretty cool Vader. The costume is a slightly customized Rubies Supreme that I bought used here on the boards a week or so ago. The mannequin I got off Ebay last week, it is 6'5" in the costume so I am happy with the size, I do hope to cutomized the mannaquin some in the future to get a better pose, but I wanted to get it at least put together.
(I did discover it is hard to take a good photo of a black costume inside with a flash:))

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

I think it looks pretty nice. I totally agree with the thought of having a completed Vader from the start and then upgrading from there. Makes total sense.

The arms are definitely the biggest mood killer with the piece. Are they detachable? When customizing it later you could do bent arms and having his hands rest at his hips - classic pose. :thumbsup

Another thing... you might wanna crumble up the suit at the chest, more like what is seen on the arms and legs, with the wrinkles and such obstructing the plain look - and you could always pull the robe in more towards the center, but not by much.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

Thanks, The arms are detatchable, they are my biggest complaint as well. I hope to cut them up and re-pose them. I was unsure what pose but the hands on the hips is a great idea, and really doable. Thanks for the suggestion! The mannequin had good height but was really skinny, so I added padding (old sheets tapped on with packing tape) to his thights and torso. I might have packed it on his chest to much, it is kinda smooth:rolleyes That should be a easy fix.

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

It might not be the best vader in town, but at least you"ve got one! I dig it :)

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

the rubies came with all of that for 395-?
seems like a great deal to me...

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

That price is the total of the costume and the mannequin together.
The great price on the costume was only because of the sweet deal I got from a fellow RPF board member:thumbsup

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

If you don't mind me saying so, I think that Darth looks AWESOME! I always wanted two life sized replicas. One of Wesley Snipes as Blade and one of Darth Vader.

KUDOS to your project! I wish I had one!

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

Both mannequin and costume for that price? Damn, you struck lucky! :thumbsup

Would be interesting to see how you padded the chest area.

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

I agree, looks excellent for $395. I also agree about the arms. Just a little tweaking needed.

And you can always upgrade parts as you go.

:)

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

I agree about the arms but I have a very simple "display" solution for you. Why not bring the cape forward more - enough where the cape covers both arms along his side.

[EDIT] - added pic to give you an idea of what I mean:

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

This is how my Vader started out. I just kept improving him as I went along. It's nice to have a complete Vader there from the get-go. The Rubies looks better in person than in pictures, and most people that see it probably won't notice a difference anyway. You're off to a great start, especially considering the price!:thumbsup

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

With a couple of tweaks as has been suggested it'll look better, but honestly i think its a cool display, and yes a great bargain as well

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

Looks great and for $395 how could you go wrong.

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

Great price mate. Nothing beats a 1:1 in your room. No matter how much people pick it it is still satisfying LOL

You've got a great price and are well on the way. Well done!

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

Thanks all.
There is something really cool about have this big-ass Vader standing there. The dude would be intimidating in real life at that size:love I am 6'2" and I have to look up at him:thumbsup

Thanks for all the suggestions, I adjusted his chest & cloak and have it draped more over his arms now. Looks good and I agree it makes a good start.:)

Re: Lifesize Vader (my cheap version)

I like it!

I've always wanted to put a Vader somewhere in my house. Grats on having one!
