My First Saber

"thats good, you have taken your first step into a larger world."

;)

now the madness that follows the first saber build... then you get a graflex, then you need another...

Looks better than my first saber.

Looks better than second and maybe third saber for that matter.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the compliments everyone, hope to get more done on it here after the weekend. I'll put up new pics as they come.

Chris

ahhhhhhhhhhhh memories........

I think the first prop-thing I ever tried to make was a saber..
Made it out of PVC pipe......(dad was an electrician)

Happy days.

Great work, keep it mate.

Tip #1
Don't ever sell it or throw it away.

Tip #2
If you want to get the emitter tip real even and smooth, there are a few Graflex templates on the net you can cut out and paste around the tube while you file it down. That is if your intention is to emulate a Graflex saber. (Apologies if that was is blatantly obvious.)

Yet another gives in to the Dark... err... hmm... Prop Replica Building Hobby. Welcome to the ranks. :D

I have a graflex template if you want one--email nanderson7@juno.com. I sold my first five hardware sabers, and even misplaced the pics I took. Like joatrash said, hold onto that sucker. It'll be fun for you to see your progress as the heroin-like addiction overtakes your life and all you do is cruise the RPF all day.

A solid start. Where did you get the t-tracks (handgrips)?

I still have my first saber - a Luke ANH. It's sitting in the kitchen next to the garbage where I've been waffling on tossing it for a couple of years.. It's starting to rust a little, mostly the ears. Can't remember what I cut them out of.. Had no t-track back then (Hey, this WAS early 2000.) I used foam insulation. They've 'migrated' from their original positions and are bunched toward the bottom. Used a door peep-hole for the glass eye and kludged a 'red button' from hardware parts. It was a fun build, I must say.

For the T-track grips, I used believe it or not old windshild wipers. Getting them seperated and smooth was a little bit of a trick but that's why I love my dremel and sanding atachments. I pulled some other belts from the trash outside autozone but not sure where or if they are going any where on the saber.

I agree.
If you're anything like the rest of the "prop addicts" here (Myself included :D ). It'll go in your collection in a place of "Honor". Just like my first attempt.
Keep up the good work. :thumbsup

Looks good. Keep up the good work. I'll try to get pics up of my first saber. It's an Obi ANH design and many of my friends think it blows the BYB version away and if I'd been alive during the filming of ANH, it could pass as a believeable prop.

Again, good job and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Seth

Edit: May I ask how old you were when you first started building? I was 12 when I started my Obi saber and was 14 when I finished it, although I constantly improve it every now and then.

Dude, I'm not gonna lie, my first saber was made from a carboard tube painted silver. Though I did have a cool wire system I worked out running through it. Then I moved up to pvc and chrome pipes. Then I bought a graflex, etc.

Its a good effort.

You gotta crawl before you can walk.

Then when you walk you may stagger.

Then you may have a few more drinks and stagger even worse and fall down.

Oh....we were talking lightsabers weren't we? :p

This saber started at age 25, I've only recently acuired the hobby, also have an R2 in the works. Lots of Ideas on more project but want to complete at least one before moving on to another

Now where's the fun in that? :p

Off to a good start there dude. Keep it up.

My first saber was made up of bits and pieces of stuff I found, or tweaked, and I can change the configuration or change out the parts to make it look different. I never finished it nor did I secure all the parts together, but I still have all the parts stored away.

I might just decide on a single configuration now and finish it. :)
