My attempt at a Trick r Treat Sam head repaint...

So we all know what the mask looked like, right?

Well, I really love the film, and the creature, and spurred on by some amazing work I'd seen here, I thought I'd try and make a Sam decoration.

I started with the mask as a base. Cleaned the awful paint job, filled him with spray foam, soaped him down, and applied a base coat of Krylon H20 Latex Spray in "Coral Creek" - which is a pretty perfect orangy peachy hue.

I resculpted the eye area to close the horridly placed mask holes, closed the mouth to hide the teefs (I prefer his thin-lipped smile), and replaced the eyes themselves with plastic (I halved a vacuformed plasic container I bought at Hobby Lobby and spray painted the interior black with enamel). Then I applied layer after layer of acrylics and washed until I got the look I wanted.

Finally - I had Quinn Lord, the little kid in the costume, sign the forehead.

Here's what I ended up with:

I picked up some burlap to make him a shredded mask, and some orange fleece fabric for some PJ's (I want the display to look like Sam's severed head), but there is an issue...

Knowing that the paint job is mostly acrylic - can anyone recommend an effective sealant? Not that I think cracking will be an issue, I'd just like to minmize the risk - and make sure the signature (in red Sharpie) is preserved and the colors stay true. Ideas?

Your repaint and modifications look great. Really makes that liscensed mask look really cool.
For sealer, try acrylic matte medium, the flexible kind. Available at all craft stores. Do a test, on the inside of the mask first, in a little area.
What was the mask made from, vinyl or latex?

Thanks for the input. The mask is totally latex.

Acrylic matte medium is a brush-on proposition, is it not? I fear my inability to apply it evenly, and without brush strokes...
