My 3000th post - my uber GB proton pack is done at last!

Hey everyone! I haven't posted here in months, and it's been killing me! I've been saving post #3000 for a special one - I wanted to show off my sixth and final proton pack! I still haven't taken good finished pictures of it, but I'm sick of not posting and I can always add them as soon as I take them! I'm actually going to make one round of revisions to this pack - mostly weathering, but there are two tiny details I'd like to add as well.

For now, here are the details that are part of this one:

- METAL gun!
- First replica pack to ever include an accurate heatsink (thanks to John)! This is machined aluminum, with wavy/angled fins!
- Metal knobs
- Fiberglass shell, one part with booster tube
- Beveled corner on the box beneath the booster
- Accurate machined gun hook
- Vibrating gun (when firing)
- Working lights (pack and gun)
- Strobe tip LEDs in the gun
- Full sound includes power up, wind down, two firing sounds, GB score, GB theme, and constant hum
- Amplifier, woofer, tweeter
- Rechargeable - just plug it in when the juice is getting low (battery lasts many hours though)
- Real banjo tips, clippards, resistors, and other fittings
- Metallic labels (where appropriate)
- Machined ion knob/shockmount
- Aluminum motherboard
- Machined ion arm end block and brass rod (with knurling)

Best of all, everything's just bolted together really SOLID on this one! No worries of the ion arm breaking off, no worries of anything breaking on the gun (all bolted or welded). It's fun to have a truly durable proton pack after all these years!

Here are some preliminary pictures - I'm gonna try and do a photo shoot of the finished pack this week:

Now unfortunately, I don't have any good shots of the finished product yet! I do have a couple pics from Halloween though. We went to the busy Copley Mall in the heart of Boston, across from where we work, for lunch. You can kind of see the pack in these shots. My friend Kurt (chewbaccadoll here on the forum) was Mr. Stay-Puft, and AJ was Slimer:

Pics of the finished pack coming soon!

I can post freely again! Woohoo! Building this kind of proton pack was one of the reasons I first came to this hobby, and eventually to this forum, 3000 posts ago. Thanks for all the good times, everyone!

Big thanks for this project to:
GotMaul
Bugstomper
Namebrand
Funkzilla
Phantom50
Venkman71
Futher
Hyperdyne
AJ Quick

And all of you who were part of the good ol' Ghostbusters prop forums, when we ran all the active projects and who helped me to research and build packs 1-5! This one couldn't have been done without all of your help!

I have witnessed this thing in person and all I can say is wow.

The pictures will never do it justice. It is simply an incredible piece. I am very proud of Doug and his work. He has poured his heart and soul into this project and it shows.

Bravo, my friend!

Thanks guys! This is my number one prop by far - it took a long time to get to this point!

haha thanks Kurt... Maybe they're just waiting on the pictures of the finished pack... Or maybe Ghostbusters props are old news at the RPF! :confused

What a tease! Let's see some beauty shots of the final buildup!!! :p

Although, I am already impressed by the WIP pics of your gun... metal gun?!?! SERIOUSLY?!? And the details you outlined make it sound like the cadillac of proton packs... so where are those pics already?

Thanks guys - those pics and videos are coming! Eric, you certainly should be on the thank you list in the first post (and now you are)! This shell was the master for Eric's latest pack mold; if he's still selling castings I can't recommend enough that you get on board!

Heh, thanks!

I agree though; this thread is too much of a tease. I take it you went with a layered approach for weathering the pack? I would love to see detail pics of the results.

Truly amazing!! Have you put it on a scale yet? I'd love to know how much it weighs with all those features...

Brother, that is AWESOME!!! Great work! I really am loving that gun! :)

Great work, Doug! :thumbsup

As someone who is still collecting parts to put together pack #2, I know how much blood, sweat, and tears it takes to put something of that quality together. Kudos on getting it done, and in time for Halloween!

Can't wait for more pics! Do you have any of the build-up? And the most important question... do you have any spare parts? :lol

WOW, f'n amazing! :)

i put my proton pack and gb costume together this year and actually ran into Bill Bryan (designer/fabricator/puppeteer of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man) at an industry halloween party, it was awesome, but i wish i was carrying around a pack as bad-ass as yours!

again amazing job! well done.

Very cool! I am glad to hear you got everything together finally. :)

I hope all the electronics worked out for you.
