Came across this whilst having a sleep deprived mooch on the net.

The Musical Pocket Watch From For A Few Dollars More - Home

i don't know why but despite loving the watch and that fact this can play, the who thing sounds like a moody infomercial and its half upfront until 1st Dec 2015!?!the pictures all appear to be photos and screen grabs from the film and no final product.
My spidey sense is tingling so to speak.

Anyone know of the maker/item?
i know they need to be made, etc but I'm not that green and for $500 will be ensuring I get a final product for it!
hopefully I'm just being overly wary

And a touch more research shows its been going since 09 in various apparent scams.
All I can tell is the site owner is 27 from uk.

Think ill give this one a miss and go research somemore

Apparently there's progress. They expect to ship with in the next three weeks. I must confess that I made the down payment last year, and I got a mail three days ago telling that the watch was finally ready. The mail was very humble and appreciative of the people supporting the project. I might be wrong about these guys, I had my fair share of doubt in the past year, but it appears that it could be legit. I'll keep you updated on events.
They have made this video shoving the actual watch.

Just checked the link in tapatalk, for some reason the sound is missing. You might want to copy paste it in to YouTube if you at using smart phone or tablets.

Me to, but since I made the payment over two installments (potentially rip offs) it was okay. I just hope it's not a scam.

This is not mechanical chimes it is electronic; you can see holes on the cover. I don't want. Too expensive for chinese stuff !

You are right but a mechanical chime playing a tune that long and complex would cost more than we spend on props in a lifetime, if at all possible.
I have quit a few pocket watches, all mechanical, as a watch should be IMO, but for this I'm willing to accept this version, if it looks the part and feels like a pocket watch.

I too, pre-ordered this watch back in 2011 with the understanding it was going to be delivered by Christmas 2012. Things seemed to be on track but the watch never showed up. However I did have email communications with Lance Ward over time and all seemed to be above board so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I was relieved to get his email last week indicating the watches will be ready for a September delivery. As to the electronics, keep in mind that there was actually no "real" watch like this in the movie. The chimes were part of the score and made to appear like it was coming from the watch. If it turns out that the watches are like the one in the video, I'll be very happy. I've seen the other "official" FAFDM watches and they neither look nor sound like the movie watch. I'm keeping the faith. Cheers.

Now that I read your post Gusm I remember that I actually payed back in 2011 as well. And when December 2012 came and went with no news I checked the webpage and saw the 2015 date. I was surprised but I thought that I could have misread the date when I made the downpayment back in 2011. I must confess that I was so excited that I had found a good looking replica that I forgot all about being carful and kinda jumped in with my eyes closed.

Well I have had a closer look at the watch and the stuff that came with it.
The watch is pretty cool. It looks the part and the chime is clear and has a good volume.
The chain is close enough for me. I opened the back to check out the memory card, but it's not possible to se the card (if there is a card) unless you remove a second cover inside and I didn't want to fiddle to much inside. After replacing the back the chime played continuously. So I had to take it of again. I did this four times before the chime only played when the button was pressed. I can't say what did the difference, there's only one way to place the back and I was very careful each time.
The papers and booklet is not much to talk about. 3 postcards, 1 wanted "poster", 1 certificate of authenticity, 1 ownership card and the booklet.
I like the watch, but I'm not sure I would buy it if I saw it in a shop. The box and paperwork just looks to shabby for something in that price range.

Very cool stuff! However I find it horribly distracting that they merely used the song from the soundtrack, complete with the strings and orchestra. I think the presentation would have been much more effective if they'd made an entirely new recording of just the chimes, as is portrayed in the film.

Hi you might have to take the second case off the watch as theirs a battery behind it, its run by 2 batterys 1 for music and 1 for movement, its not got a micro sd card inside it, if you go to ebay and put in musical pocket watch its on their for $149 thats about £95, i asked the seller and he said you would have to take it to a watch maker to replace the batterys and he also said he supplies the person who you brought the watch off at a wholesale price. al

I agree. A chime only recording would be the right way to do it. I had hoped there would be a memory card, as they said on the website, then I could have loaded a new chime.
I have looked at the watch again and it has grown on me. Like it better now than I initially did.

Well that's a far better price.
I wonder if it's a batch of "extra" watches he made when doing the batch commissioned by the guy I bought it from. The watch has not been available before now.

It's a nice looking watch. That wooden box looks like the ones the local craft shop has whenever i go in for stuff.
