heya,
i have an opportunity to get one of these today 270- shipped.

-is that as good a deal that i think it is?
-anyone have any pics of theirs or a review of it?
-are there better deals out there?
-is it worth the dough?
thanks

UPDATE:
I got one for 235- shipped
arrived today
very sweet deal(glad i waited 2 months and saved 40 bucks).
much bigger than I though, dont appear to see any paint issues either.
Still not sure why anyone would shell the extra 100-150 for a star corps or 501st but im happy with my plain ole white. Goes much better with the other helmets too.

I've seen them go for as little as $225 US plus $25 shipping on ebay as recent as yesterday. I'm on the fence as well....this seems like a good deal although I wonder about QC...

thanks for the response.
Im real in between.
I want the helmet, but i dont want to spend too much on it(as i collect a ton of stuff).
Id love to get a fan made one, but it seems those are almost in this price range.
Im currently settling for a rubies stormie and a rubies clone aotc helm.
I want a rots but i cant find a decent affordable one (under 200-).

Im considering just baging my search and just going for the sauron /withchking helms.
I want the SW ones more but, it seems thier prices are way more than they should be considering...

I would buy it in my opinion. Youre gonna pay over $200 for a fan made one, the fan made require clean up, trimming, painting, padding, lense, etc. For the prices that are dropping on the MR plain white, you really are getting a killer deal that is pretty accurate.

I have the plain white helmet that I eventually have plans on using for my shocktrooper armor set-up. I would recommend it. I paid $300 for mine shipped and was happy with it. The only downsides... 1. The interior has a bit of a stink to it. It fades with time, but does have an odor to it. 2. It is fairly tight inside if you are going to troop with it. Overall, I'm happy with the quality of the helmet.

How tight is it? Do you think you could wear glasses under it? I don't wanna get personal, but do you have a big head? :lol You know what I mean.

wow rob..that is a big mellon. :)

anything under 300.00 I think is a deal.
wait for a good deal and do it...

I agree... $300 is the break point on this helmet. If you can get it under that price, I think most people will be happy with the purchase.

i just bought one on ebay for $250 shipped....

i havent received it yet, but had all the same question as you....the guy i bought it from said he hadnt heard of any MR quality control issues but if i opened it and wasnt happy with it i could return it for a full refund

i have been researching buying a couple fan made helmets and they all seem to be in the $200 - $250 price range...then you have to have them cleaned up and painted which can be $100 - $250 depending on what style you want

i dont plan to troop in it, but just display it with other helmets...so for me size and comfort arent an issue

if your looking for something to troop in, and you want to weather it or do a certain paint scheme then the fan made buckets are probably the way to go...but if your just looking for a basic white EP. III clone display piece then the MR seems to be a pretty good deal at under $300

just my $.02... :D

I passed on the 270- deal .

I want a nice helmet to put on a shelf.
Id love a spec ops color scheme but would never pay a premium for it ($300 vs $400+).

I dont 'troop' but it would be nice to throw on every now and then.

I was hoping that fan made versions would be markably cheaper than the MR ones but that isnt really the case, id say the same pretty much goes for stormie helmets as well.

just an update...

i rec'd my helmet yesterday...opened it up and the paint scheme seems to be perfect...no blemishes or faded spots

so i couldnt be happier for $250 shipped...

as a display piece, i think this one is hard to beat for around $250

thanks

That's good to hear...while I'm not a huge fan of the PT Trooper helmet variants, the plain white Trooper has caught my eye so I think I'm gonna jump off the fence and get one.

BTW....how "stinky" was yours? The odour seems to be a common complaint...

I can't believe how picky some of you are . I got a shocktrooper helmet and I was perfectly happy with it. Some of you talk about smelly lid interiors.
It's glue and plastic . If you buy a fan made one and it has an interior made of the same things it will also smell. I think that the price was fine and the only reason that these are going cheap at all is because of the hype that was put on them about them not being perfect. I bought a VM 1 from Graham from the first run and it was not perfect ,there were runs in the clearcoat.
It is a fan made product so i do not expect it to be 100% perfect.
So why do we expect 100% perfection from a company that is making mass quantities? If you buy a Plasma tv I want you to look over the entire thing and tell me it did not have any nicks , scratches or scuff marks on the front, back ,side or bottom.
I buy a lot of fan made pieces and I have never recieved a 100% perfect piece. Now if you buy a kit and it does not come out perfect then how do you accept that?

Rant over

kev vader

yea. mine did smell a little rank...

but i'm sure that will go away in time

chris

you make some great points...i agree that alot of collectors can be a bit too picky, but when you buy something from a company that has a license to reproduce accurate props you expect them to be top notch...also, even though they are producing mass quanitites, they are charging a pretty good buck for their stuff...so with those prices comes a certain expectation i think....if the helmets were going for $99 then i think people would accept an inferior paint job and just repaint them

some of the pics i have seen of the defective Ep. III lids are pretty obvious screw ups, luckily mine wasnt one, but if it had been i would have returned it to the seller

for the record, if i bought a plasma with a scratch on it i would take that back too... :D

thanks

brad

Thanks....maybe some Febreeze would work. :p

BTW...yes, I'm ultra picky...and while I have a certain degree of tolerance for certain faults, I expect the fundamentals like build/paint quality to be perfect or damn close. That's what a manufacturer has to ensure to get my hard earned dollar.

[/b]

Every one of my JB Vader helmets had *perfect* paintwork...and believe me, I scrutinized the helmet's details....so near perfection quality can be realized from even the "garage" builder if they commit to doing so.

And yes, I'd send the plasma back as well. :D

$250 shipped?

You couldn't do ma a favor and PM me the details of who you got it from could you? :D I've been looking on eBay for one of these...haven't seen one as low as that including shipping.

If there are any dealers on here who can match that price, feel free to drop me a PM. ;)

Cheers, Gord.

Im only picky of the MR helmets now because everyone I have seen has had soft details on the edges, the ear pieces, the mohawk etc. A couple new fan made helmets that have surfaced recently are lightyears better than the MR.

i think your right that a lot of the fanmade helmets are better than the MR white helmet...

but, again, if your not a painter they cant be had for $250 shipped... :D
