MR Vader ESB Force FX grip attachment?

A friend of mine got a MR Vader ESB FX saber retrofitted by Uktrasabers and is converting it into an Anakin AOTC as best he can. His problem right now is the tiny grips they used on the AOTC saber.

He'd like to remove the grips from his AOTC Force FX and put them on the Vader. Does anyone know how the Vader grips are secured to the body? Are they held by rivets like the AOTC? Or with grooves cut into the body like the rumor I heard about the ANH?

in mine you can see the back of them inside the tube, so yeah, slits in the body going inside, no clue how youd take them off.
