MR IX Tricorder... Who on here actually got theirs???

I'd be happy if we could just get a solid, 100% confirmed number of how many were actually released. I've heard several times it was about 300 but there's no hard data to support that.

MR does desperately want to get this product out even though it doesnt look good... This item did better with pre-sales than any of their other trek items from what I hear. My understanding is that 298 of them actually shipped and three of those were returned for various reasons. Right now sitting at MR is a completely destroyed display case, a tricorder with defective electronics, and their working engineering development model. They are shipping the working one to a new manufacturer in Hong Kong to tear apart, mold, and reverse engineer in hopes of brining this project back to life. While they would love to just copy the item and fill the remainder of the order, its more likely that we are looking at 6-9 months of development, another wait while every little detail goes back and forth from CBS legal, and even if they do pull it off they intend to make some changes to it. From the mouth of one MR rep, "we thought about throwing a scanner in the back," and another rep also mentioned that they will probably make changes before its re-released. Again, Im skeptical that we aren't just looking at the next ICONS-ish final run, but (although thats how business goes), both reps were very open to talking about it and sounded sure that they would pull this off eventually. Im afraid that if they go the route of Trek XI movie props it will be the nail in the coffin. I just don't see their being that much demand. I was trying desperately to track someone down on the forums who had one of the IX tricorders and buy or trade for it. I appreciate the responses I've gotten, but as luck would have it I just tracked one down. The guy who had it isnt a collector, must not know what's going on with this product, and let it go for $450 shipped. Guess I just got lucky, I was expecting to blow my first home purchase down payment. Still financially irresponsible, but
Im very excited to get this bad boy. Just curious, those of you who got these, would you have let it go and for how much?

I had a chance to get one but passed. Just didn't flip my trigger. It beeps and light but there is zero interaction.

They need to job this out to an American prop builder. HMS or the like or we'll never see it.

It wasn't on my big wanted list or anything so not heartbroken.
Maybe something better will come next time.

I was just checking out ebay and I found a guy in Italy who is pre-selling them ??

I've just sent him a question, asking him if he knew that production of the item was ( for now) cancelled, curious what his reply will be.

I dont get it... Ive heard a few people complain about no "interaction" on this piece. What do you want it to do? Its not like the original prop had multiple scanning modes, different sound effects, or lighting patterns. There is no "interaction" on any of the other items they have released (okay, I guess the settings on the FC phaser would count as being interactive). Its a true to form replica of one of the most loved props from the later series. Its packed with more lighting and blinkies than anything else they have released, and I love that its metal. Its cool that some of the guys have had functional buttons on their replicas, but even though we have those available most of the build ups people do are no different than this piece, except they rock the vacuform and resin bodies. And if youre doing that build up yourself you probably spend about what MR was retailing at between the kit, electronics, build time, and other supplies you would need. Tack on top of that that is comes with a beautiful display case and other goodies, and it should prove to be a rather rare collectible...I dont see why collectors and prop lovers wouldnt want it. Granted im not much of a TOS collector (although I love my MR TOS pieces), I think this is the coolest piece they have (tried) to produce.

And the original props didn't have any sounds either. There's absolutely no precedent whatsoever for their not including multiple sound and/or lighting effects operated with a few simple buttons.

Yes, the sounds were added in post production...but with the exception of a few timely beeps to meet the needs of the occasional script it was still always the same sounds and lighting effects. Dont get me wrong...I think it would be really cool if you could tap your finger on the control buttons and get beeps and bleeps out of them. Ive seen digital screens that people make for their tricorders that can rock out some amazing effects too and take the "interactivity" to a whole new level, but these are not things that I would expect from a $350 MR replica.

I like mine a lot. First, higher quality TNG style tricorder I have had. Nice piece, heavy, nice lights and electronics packed into a cool replica. Very happy with my # 0058! Had it since about November.

Well, that's funny. Because I got #0058 directly from MR. LOL! And here it is in my collection gallery:

I like it a lot! Ordered it when they first went on sale from MR.

Yup, the mind is going! :lol

Mine was #0054, direct from MR.

Frankly, I don't exepect to see this or any other high end Prop Replica out of MR ever again.

I would love to proven wrong about this, but I have not heard anything officially or otherwise that makes me believe we will ever see the rest of the run.

I ended up getting one from Rodd.com and will probably buy the Medical version they just started selling too. At least with these you are getting something made buy the same guys who made them for the show, so you know they will be accurate.

I think we can all agree with this. I mean, let's face it. Has MR put ANY props out this year?

Just got my tricorder today!!! I wasn't around to sign for it when UPS came but ill be damned if Im going to let it sit there all weekend. Couldn't wait until Monday, especially since I drive right by the UPS distribution plant on my way home from work. I ended up sitting in the parking lot for an hour and a half waiting for my driver to finish his route. I think its a really nice piece, and much to my pleasant surprise the closing ratchet sound works perfectly and activates right at the point where the door closes enough that you feel the magnet pull it closed (which gives it a cool "real" feeling. Maybe I got lucky and got the one fluke piece that works properly. This piece is VERY heavy and the metal body is really nice touch. I think that the finish will also prevent the paint stripping on the hinges problem I always have with my other tricorders. Overall its a little larger than my other tricorders, but only a smidgen. Lastly, I love the display stand. Like their other pieces, the stand tops off this replica as a perfect display piece and its really nice how it sits securely displayed both open and closed. The plastic back plate that people complained about isn't a big negative and doesn't stand out. I don't understand why it has the two little bumps under the hinges, but again, it doesn't really take away from this piece. The only negative thing I have to say about this piece is the way they did the display screen and overlay areas. I understand now what people meant when they said you cant really read the screen. The screen is a simple piece of translucent plastic and the graphics aren't particularly vibrant. They did it that way to make the lights shine through when activated, but its just the front overlay, a gap, and then the LEDs, which are set back almost an 1/8". This does cause some light bleed and if you hold it at an angle and aren't viewing it straight on the lights don't line up perfectly. At the end of the day I think its a great replica, considering how limited the quantities are I am very happy to have it in my collection, and hands down I would say its worth the retail price (not that you can get one for that anymore).
