MR Falcon question

Hoping someone can answer this.

Does the MR Falcon come off the stand easily, like the TOS Enterprise? Or is it permanently afixed?

Thanks.

Craig

It's not permanently affixed. The model itself is much heavier than the Enterprise, and it sits at an angle on the display rod, so it's a bit more difficult to put on and take off of the stand than the E. But it does simply slide on and off the rod.

Actually, if I recall correctly, MR's unpacking instructions state that failure to follow the directions for mounting the Falcon on its display stand will void the warranty... and the instructions stipulate that three people are needed (two to hold the Falcon and one to guide the post into the hole :confused). I'd venture to guess, though, that there are plenty of collectors who have unpacked their Falcons and set up their displays unaided.

Hope this helps. :)

Remember, I'm just speculating that there are collectors who did it unassisted. You'd forfeit your warranty if you admitted to doing it with fewer than three. ;)

I used three people to unpack and mount my Falcon. Me, myself, and I. That and little bit cussing too.

Ditto - I did it myself but it was a pain in the a$$. The falcon is over 35 pounds and you need to hold it at an angle with your arms fairly outstretched as you gently lower it onto the post. Difficult but not impossible... Actually let me rephrase that - VERY difficult...but not impossible.

Other then that its a simple gravity fit onto the post. However disconnecting seems to be an issue as the post doesn't want to disconnect after its been seated a while... They give you a little spring that is supposed to alleviate that but it doesn't sem to work all that well IMO...

Thanks to everyone that answered! I'm thinking of logistics here! The MF is going to be shipped to my workplace so I can sign for it. It looks like I'll have to get a friend to help me bring it to my townhouse, which involves a couple of flights of stairs. Sounds like it's similar to moving a TV.

Can someone take a tape measure and tell me the dimensions of the base. I'm heading to Ikea and I'd like to get a table for the beastie.

Thanks again.

Thats funny Craig. I live in a town house too. Yesterday the Falcon was in the dining room downstairs , today its in the lounge up 2 fights of stairs. I have carried it back and forth but it is VERY heavy. I usually take the base first , then the Falcon. You can them use the mirror underneath to line the jack up.

Dimensions of the base are.... roughly 26.25" x 36" (i say roughly because this are the sizes for my acrylic case..... so there might be a .25" difference on either side.

Personally I used a table that was an inch or two smaller than the base. It makes the Falcon look bigger, it's still stable because it's so heavy, and it saves space to have a slightly smaller table.

So you used a table that is about 24 X 34 then? How high? Like end table height?

I''ve been looking for a table to put mine on...

My buddy got one of these and asked for my help in mounting it. It can be tough, even with two people. However, after some difficulty...

I sprayed some WD-40 on a paper towel and rubbed it on the support rod and lightly in the receiving part of the Falcon and was able to slide it on by myself with no problem what-so-ever. It's just the tight fit that works against you, but with a little 'help', it slides right in... That doesn't sound right, but the idea still holds true.

I'm looking for one right now myself. Trying to find the best price in the Nashville area. Think I may have found a good deal at 140$ at a local plastics shop. I've seen local quotes here in Nashville ranging from 140$ up to 230$

I'm going with Philip from RS's dimensions. Mine seems to match that pretty close.

.250 clear acrylic 5 sided box. 14.0 h (o.d.) x 25.75 w (i.d.) x 35.437 d (i.d.) cemented & flame polished

Okay,

The UPS tracking site says the Falcon is now in town. It's cleared customs and I'm waiting to get hit with the brokerage fee.

Ok, does anyone know how much the ESB falcon filming miniature weighed? I'm curious to know if the weight is the same as well.

Yes, I went a little case happy and bought cases for a lot of the things I had recently. It really makes a difference for the display. Plus, getting a table that is slightly smaller than the falcon will be okay. Just make sure the table is sturdy.

As you can see in the last picture of the x-wing the table is about two inches shorter than the actual x-wing on all sides. The x-wing holds up very very well.

It's the same with the tie fighter the base is smaller than the actual model.

In terms of mounting the falcon. I took the falcon on and off the base a lot. I moved the falcon around my house a couple of times. I dont think you need wd40. Just look at pictures of peoples falcons and notice the angle of the falcon. If you have two people you will be able to see the hole on the bottom of the falcon. As long as you have it at the right angle, you should be able to slip in with no problems. In the begining I had trouble putting the falcon onto the base, because I always tried to put the falcon on straight.
