Movies that make you cry.

Not read this whole thread, but every time I see the title I think to myself: "too many to list" would be my response. However, I thought I add one that I just saw on TV for the first time: Bridge to Terabithia. I won't spoil it, but there was a point that I had to blame my sniffles on the cold I currently have.

Apollo 13

Two moments get me...

1. When Marilyn says, "If anyone has a problem with that, they can take it up with my husband - he'll be home on Friday!"

2. When Lovell finally responds following the LOS/blackout, and the capsule splashes down.

:lol Yeah, Apollo 13 has always been one of my favorites. Knowing what happened, hearing some testimony from people who experienced the event (not me, I'm too young) and seeing the movie it's like 'yeah, they definitely took some liberties' but it's okay, 'cause 1) it's a movie, 2) it's close enough that I don't care about 1).

And 'too many' is right.

I was rereading some of the posts, and I realized that the Chronicles of Narnia have a little tiny special place in my heart. I've read all of the books at least once, so I do have something to compare them too, and they have a lots of 'I'm-crying-cause-I'm-happy-d*mn*t' moments. None of relief, see previous sentence. :rolleyes
Personally, I'm waiting sort of desperately for the last book's movie... :unsure

At the end of The Crow, when Shelly comes to Eric... man that hits me hard. Pretty much anything dealing with love and loss. I got all choked up today watching Deathly Hallows pt II during the battle aftermath scene, esp with Lupin and Tonks and how they were positioned.

Edit to add: Interview with the Vampire when Claudia dies and Louie walks into where it happened.

Just saw War Horse... and I just couldn't stop crying... especially at the end... that's all I gotta say.

Having been listening to the score for the last day, I kinda get the feeling I'm gonna go that way, too... we'll see in a week, I guess.

Re: Movies you have cried watching

I have only cried during one movie: Hachi: A Dog's Tale. Normally, I know that movies are simply trying to tug at the heart strings with contrived stories, but Hachi killed me. It's based on a true story of a dog and professor in Japan. In the movie, Richard Gere finds this puppy and adopts him. The dog follows Gere every day to the train station when Gere goes to work and comes back to the train station every night to greet him. One day, Gere's character dies, but the dog continues to come to the train station at the same time, every day, for years, waiting for his master to show up. And every day, his master doesn't come and years later, Hachi dies alone remembering the times he had with his master. I'm tearing up just thinking about this movie. Knowing that this is a true story and a dog actually did this, not understanding why his master is suddenly gone, just kills me. There's actually a statue of Hachi in that train station in Japan where the dog used to sit.

Re: Movies you have cried watching

I don't think I've openly cried ever for a film (don't know why, I think I just usually get the "it's only a movie" thought going before I get open tears), but there's been a number of times when I get the watery eyes going and the dry throat.

WALL-E got me for a lot of reasons, especially right before the end...

Of Mice and Men (the one with Malkovich in it). The climax of that one is really pretty deep, even moreso than I pictured it in the book.

Toy Story 3...from the accounts I've seen on this board I think this must apply to 95% of the members here.

The Fox and the Hound...(see below).

Tuesdays With Morrie...briefly.

Generally I tend to cry a lot when it involves animals or nature. This can be in a good or bad way, and varies in emotion a lot, but some reason if it's animals or Earth/nature stuff it gets me riled up. Example of bad - Old Yeller, which I have never returned to since being a child; example of good - Far And Away, watching that stallion blow past all the other horses during the Land Race just gets me excited to tears. Also the Firebird scene in Fantasia 2000 made me a little misty.

Sometimes The Phantom Menace makes me cry. I admit it.

Sadly I saw a story on this. I loved the movie and I had a Shiba Inu (the breed of dog they used for the puppy shots). The actual event took place during World War 2 and it was exagerated to promote the 'good' of the Japanese nation. And the main reason the dog kept returning to the station was because the vendors gave him food. So there was some fudging of the facte there. Really ruined it for me, but it was still a great movie.

I finally plugged in Toy Story 3 last night...

My daughter (9) has lately been upset about growing up and growing out of her toys, so I figured I'd better check out the source material.

I "get" what everyone is saying about the end... Hard not to get sentimental.

But I got to agree with micdavis - I think Toy Story 2 pulls on those heart strings harder than 3 does...

The Sarah McLachlan song in two got me, but the ending of three really nailed me. Both worthy of this list.

The ending of First Blood, when Rambo breaks down about how awful Vietnam was, and how he returned home only to be treated like crap, get's me every time.
