Morph Suit With Foam Muscles Advice

Looking for some advice on creating muscles using upholstery foam on my morph suit. I was going to go down the Mr I suit route however It is a cheap version with very little muscle I have. I am also very skinny and the suit seems to hang off me. After reading Tokyorose's thread and seeing the pics there I have decided to go down this route.
I am wondering if I should put on a base coat of latex first and then put muscles on?
I am also wondering what would be the best way to stick the muscles on, I think I read that spray adhesive was used.

Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Seam

Hi mate, only advice i can give is how i did mine.I got a storm trouper under suit(similar to yours)and brushed latex on the parts where you will place foam muscles.then cut foam and latex them in place, once dry then latex all over the foam.my suit then goes into a full latex skin, but if you just want yours as a suit, then you will need to latex until you are happy with the look.hope this is some help.

Cheers for that.. Do you used latex to adhere the foam to the suit is that right?

I will be placing the morph suit on to a duct tape dummy I made of myself last week.

Thanks again

The advice cars66 gave is the best way to go. Yea you are right in saying that a spray adhesive was used not sure on the best one is most probably a strong textile spray adhesive or something along those lines.

How are you planning on getting the foam cut and smoothed down to the right shape?

I plan to cut it my hand and using sandpaper. Have tried a sample piece and turned out not bed. Although it did have women's cellulite look lol. It will be very time consuming bit strangely enough I found it quite satisfying doing the sample piece. On Tokyorose's thread they mentioned the use if an air powered orbital sander which I have access too so will give that a try too.

Just had a thought though which has scuppered my plans of getting started this weekend...I will need to get a new zip put on the morph suit, after cutting off the head.. Damn..

Cheers

One trick that I heard from TokyoRose after contacting him a while ago. Was soaking the muscle pieces in water then freezing them and sanding them like that to create a smoother texture. By the way, where'd you get your upholstery foam? Been trying to find a provider with reasonable prices.

That is a fantastic tip Spatz would never have thought if freezing . I got the foam from a local foam factory they sell the foam and upholster things for people. Went in initially to buy foam and did find it expensive . I explained to the guy what I was needing it for and asked him for any off cuts. Ended up with the bag of the gods of foam for free as it was getting binned anyway, had to collapse all the seats on my car to fit .. Lol...

Worth a try mate

Cheers

Ah the beauty of cloaking lol

Yeah bud that would be awesome, thanks. Drop me a pm and we can go from there

I'll be watching this Sean. I like the freezer idea (brilliant). The more I see this done, the more I think I may do this on my next one as opposed to sculpting. My Mr. I suit looks okay, but I need something a little more form fitting for my next suit. Keep us up to date my man!

Hey man,
When I did my latex suit, I did like cars666 said and adhered it with latex. It definitely works but can be a bit of a pain. I would definitely invest in a hair dryer to help speed things along. For the silicone version, we use 3M Super77 adhesive spray. It worked really well. I would suggest using that to adhere the foam then latexing over top but either way should work.

As far as sanding the foam down. The water/freezing trick was suggested by a friend. It sounds like a logical idea but just remember the water will melt and has to go somewhere, so take that into account. Could get messy. Really though, the beast success we've had was from cutting the rough shapes with an electric knife, shaping them with a utility knife/Olfa blade, then adhering them and further refining with the utility knife. You need either a sharpener or a lot of replacement blades. They dull quickly and as soon as they do, they begin to grab and tear the foam. Then once that's done, if you have the resources you can sand it down with a sanding disk.

Good luck, can't wait to see what you come up with.

Thanks T/Rose advice most appreciated. I tried the freezing thing and yeah it does make a difference. I have been downloading loads of pics of muscle structure for reference and did plan to start tonight, however duct tape dummy did not turn out very well and will not be able to create another one till next week.. Not happy at the prospect, apart from the expense of the tape which us quite expensive in the UK I am not looking forward to the pain.

Thanks again bud..
