merquise13's 2015 Halloween Costume Contest Entry - "Blackbeard from Pan"
Costume: Blackbeard from the new movie Pan.
How i created it. Armor is made from Sintra Plastic. Designed it similar to a spanish cuirass. Details are also sintra on the armor. there is a faux leather jacket underneath that was sewn from a modified renaissance pattern. Feathers were done using a feather shoulder cape and then sewn into the collar in several layers. Breeches were done using a modified pattern that i purchased online. made of a silk like material with an interfacing and inner lining to give it the "poofy" look. Made shoe covers. Sword was made from a modified training tai chi sword and a christmas ornament. Used this materials to make it con friendly.
Challenges i faced along the way. This armor i began making around the time the first trailers came out. as more photos and stills and trailers came out, i still was not able to get a full body shot of the entire costume front and back. I had to make some design choices based on what i could see, so i could meet my deadline to have finished by salt lake comic con and the movie release. Another delay was the movie was pushed from a june release date to october. If it had released in june, i would have been able to get more stills of the complete costume.
