Medieval Dr. Doom (Foam helmet/armor with pictures)

I'm working on a Medieval Dr. Doom foam costume after Shinobitron's amazing medieval Dr. Doom action figure on deviantart.

I had a lot of trouble with bondo + pepakura, and being on a budget, left me doing most of this costume out of foam which has turned out really good so far. I've completed the Helmet, chest piece, cape, and shoulder/arm armor plates. I'm working on the foot/leg armor, gauntlet, plate mail shirt, crossbow gun, sword, and other knick-knacks now. I'll be updating and posting more pics with the process.

For the foam Dr. Doom template: I used the pepakura template, took off the edges, and used those to cut the foam pieces. I haven't seen anyone try a foam build of Dr Doom's helmet which left this first build VERY rough around the edges. Gonna try to clean it up the best I can before I prep it for painting. Also, I'm gonna work on fixing a foam helmet template by hand for everyone to produce less seams for a smoother, better look.

The foam I used was Sears Antifatigue foam mats for the helmet and chest piece and 3mm craft foam for everything else.

I'd love any questions, advice, or tips from you all.

Pepakura Prep

45 cut any of the pieces that have a split in the actual template piece so you can get a bend to that piece in the foam. Any pieces that are solid you just wanna bend the foam with a heat gun to shape the helmet the way you want it. Check Pepakura Designer for help and if you have any steep bends at a seem you'll want to 45 degree cut one end (I always cut the end that was going higher up on the helmet) not both. It is a lot of trial and error honestly :/ goodluck to you though.

Very cool.

There are some nice Dr Dooms around here... Looking forward to watching how this comes along. I haven't seen the design you're working from, but I love alternate and redesigned costumes.
