Hey guys im going to this video game concert and I plan on going as the Master Chief suit(I have the helmet and gauntlet I dont really need any body pieces if you watch the video, as the robe hides everything) from the Halo Xbox One trailer
(Halo Xbox One -- E3 2013 Trailer - YouTube). I just have a few questions:
1.what materials would I need to make this?
2. And how would I wrap it like around my body like that? (Covering my head etc...)

This is my first "build" I guess even though its so simple thanks guys!

Go to walmart or some fabric shop get a few yards of dark plbrown fabric there are tons of tutorials onhow to make a cloak and just modify it to make it look like the one in the trailer also it would be cool if you made the cortana ai chip dog tag c:

just use a paint tarp ,its cheap and with a weathering effect turns out ok, here one I made for my magnaguard , as to how to make it just do 3 donut shapes like if you put yourself under a bed sheet just cut hole for the heat and make a hoodie then sew them together

I would totally do the cortana dog tag any pointers on how though? Also thanks for the pic man its helping me lay down my foundation. Im caught between cloth and tarp material. Which one would be easier to weather? How would you go about weathering either one?

This is no criticism on you, but putting a robe, or any fabric, on top of Master Chief's Mjolnir armor is such an illconceived idea. 343 is really clueless about what to do with the franchise. They've been throwing every cliche at it. It's embarrassing.

cloth and tarp material ? well that your choice (and price) as for weathering there a lot of way to do it , ,(you can google it)

I use a misting of flat black,
, brown/tan , to give my dirty, smoked look. If you wash it, it will come off to an extent, so you'll have to re-apply it again.

For the worn (aged) look, you can use a rough grit sandpaper or a wire brush to wear away at the fabric a bit. You could also drag it back and forth on rough concrete (like a driveway).

For the distressed (battle damage) look, you can bunch up a small area and snip away at it with some scissors (dull scissors actually do a pretty good job as they don't cut all the way through it). After you wash it a few time, the ends will fray (depending on what type of fabric it is). Natural materials like cotton work best. Synthetics like polyester just tend to tear and then unravel when washed. You can always singe the fabric in a few spots if you dare, but be warned that it will weaken the fabric. If you do this, stand next to a sink or tub of water in case things go awry. Just be careful

for the dog tag , you can use bathtub chain and jb weld epoxy putty to sculpt the tag (cheap way to do it )

I respect your opinion but the entire trailer is symbolic. Did the Halo 4 Scanned trailer actually happen in the game? No It was symbolic. I'm sure this is the same. Notice the cracked visor? His suit is compromised. But not enough to warrant removal. And he has no tools for removal. The cloak offers a degree of protection a compromised suit cannot.

Also bear in mind this is simply 'teaser imagery'. The imagery itself is very significant. But these specific events in that specific order may not occur cannonically within any games or books. It may be purely for teasing the crowd and foreshadowing the basics of the plotline to come with a broken suit, and stranded Chief.

I like how 343 is handling the Halo universe from the Kilo-Five book series to the Forerunner saga book series (both very interesting reads) I think 343 is shapping up to make one of the best halo games ever with Halo 5.

I'll definitely will keep this in mind, I like the wire brush idea alot! Im going to go with cloth it seems. Ill post pics soon (is there a mobile app?), im giving my grandma instructions on how to do this (to stitch it for me). Cause I mean what are grandmas for?

And for the Cortana chip I found a very good thread to base it off of.

The problems I have with 343 extend beyond trailers. I don't like what the books or Halo 4 did to the canon.
