Mass Effect 2 M9 Tempest

While working on templates for the Blood Dragon armor variant I decided that I would need a weapon to go with it.

Queue 2 long nights of 3D work and being very thankful that all 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 are on Netflix and this is the outcome.

While most of the dimensions came about from guess work and it may not be 100% game accurate, I am quite pleased with it.

Now all that remains is amassing the funds to have it CNC milled.

P.S. I would upload a wireframe image but it gets quite eye straining in the grip area.

Feel free to do so.
I've been told that the scaling should be about 440 mm in length and it seems to be just about perfect that way.
I may even release a simplified version for Pepakura eventually.

I've been working on this, but my machine shut down. Here's the first attempt:

It turned out to be way too big, so I asked Tyr to re-scale the model and redesign it so the magazine would be removable. Here's the first slice of the new carving:


I'm much happier with it:


I should have the rest of the cutting done in a couple of days. Then I'll be detailing and molding it. To give you an idea of what to expect, here's a shot of the last Mass Effect prop I built:

I've epoxied the slices back together now that I've figured out how to keep it open for lights and wiring. Here's a pic from this afternoon:


There will be two separate panels to cover the hole on the left side. The first will be glued in place after installing lights and whatnot. The second will be fitted snugly so it can be pulled off to replace batteries like I did with the left panel on my M3 Predator pistols:

After oodles and gobs of filling, sanding, and detailing, it looks like so:


Right now I'm still trying to find references for what the muzzle and the top of the magazine should look like. IF you have any, please post them here.

I've re-tooled the groves in the grip and coated the black parts with a layer of Rustoleum Stone textured paint:


If I wasn't planning on molding it, I would've used a more durable textured paint such as DupiColor Truck Bed Coating.

I still need to figure out what the top of the magazine and the end of the barrels look like. Any help would be appreciated.

Mold box mostly done:


My workshop camera is acting up, so I didn't get any pictures of the finished mold box.

Here I am dumping in a bucket of goo:


I ran out of energy before I'd finished filling the box last night, so I've essentially bought myself an additional day of wiating for plurple goo to solidify before I'm able to pull any casts. It wont' be tomorrow, but probably Monday or Tuesday when I've got casts coming out of the mold.

Anybody want one?

Looks like the first half of the mold came out alright:


The second half was poured last night:


I had a friend helping out and he mixed the silicone a bit too light on the last batch that was poured in. It'll be a bit later today before it's ready to pull castings.

EDIT: forgot to mention the separate molds for the magazine, rear site, and one of the separate panels on the left side of the SMG:


I'll start a sale thread once I've got a couple of pulls out of the molds.

Definitely one of the cooler guns of Mass Effect 2, a pity Soldier classes couldn't use it. That magazine is also enormous especially when assault rifles had internal ones, could have millions of rounds.
