Marty McFly Safari Shirt - Back to the Future

Small update:

My new sample came in, and I'm out of town on business, so I got someone to take pictures of it for me...since I'm impatient like that.

I don't know about you, but I'd say that coloration looks pretty spot on!

I'm not sold on this material either just by how thin it looks in the pictures, but I'll wait until I hold it in my hands to pass judgment.

Yes. It does look a little too thin as you can see the darkness of the table showing through it. The pattern is perfect though. Can't wait to see a prototype.

What's great is, the person I got to take the pictures knows me so well that she KNEW to put something behind it, since she knew I'd be interested in seeing the sheerness of the fabric.

...at least my obsession is well known. :lol

I probably won't get a chance to work on a pattern until April just due to my crazy schedule. (Though I may try to sneak some drafting in next week) That said, since I'm not far off MJF's height, I realized that I can actually use the grid of the print to help me scale the pattern accurately. So I'm going to make myself some graph paper that has a scale matching the print and just copy over what I see.

I love when things end up being easier than they otherwise would be.

Same for me. MJF is 5'4 and I'm 5'5. Every costume piece I can just use his size without worrying about the look and fit of it because me and him are similar in stature. The only thing different in size are our shoes. He is a 7 and I'm an 8.

Why was the style of shirt everywhere, but nowhere to be found today?! :confused

Also, I was watching Miami Vice the other night and spotted someone wearing what appears to be the "the" shirt in red…

This is like the ET/Atari landfill, I bet there's like a thousand of this shirt somewhere in a bank vault.

Here's a couple of screen grabs from the Miami Vice episode "Prodigal Son: Part 1", hard to know for sure because the footage is grainy, but it appears to be the same shirt (in red):

To add to that, here's a couple of shots of Ricky Schroder wearing the same shirt also in red.

Lyon Estates: I haven't seen that photo, almost ad like picture of Michael J. Fox before. Do you know where it came from?

No idea. It was a pin-up in some '80s magazine, just found it on google. Unfortunately, doesn't tell you what magazine it came from.

Right, about the google link not providing the magazine info. I was wondering. I probably would have been about 7 when it was printed. Not something I would have been subscribing too. Especially if it came from some "heart throb" teen magazine. :D

That Ricky Schroder seems to have the same weird seams as the McFly shirt!

...it's hard to tell with the low resolution, but definitely an interesting find. Man, even if we could find a vintage shirt in the wrong color way it would give us a LOT of information. Awesome find, man!

Just ordered a swatch of fabric with my pattern on it.

As I know from working on Spider-Man prints, every printer is calibrated differently, so I may have to change how saturated the colors are to accurately match what's on screen. So hopefully getting this swatch will be a step in the right direction towards doing that. I'll post pictures when it comes in.

I'm having difficulty finding your pattern beyond the one sold by "risu" on Spoonflower. Please help? :)
Also interested in a shirt pattern, from whomever generates one first.

Thanks to all.

Not if they want it to be accurate. It's fine that you're selling them and I'm sure there are plenty of people that would go for that, but you need to stop shilling and pushing them on people in the normal forum. If you want to sell stuff here, get a premium account and start a thread in the junkyard.

The darkness of the slash lines on the "official" ones just turns me off to them. No offense to BTTF Fourm, as he doesn't make the shirts, but sometimes DIY and prop making is the better way to go for accuracy.

I offered a simple solution to your stated problem. I have no idea why you would think it was rude. Nothing rude was stated. As for a premium membership I had one, and one of you got a friend who is an admin to remove it. I am not selling anything here on the RFP.

Alright. Thanks for being rude. Maybe I should have been more specific. I'm looking for an accurate **sewing** pattern for the shirt, and an accurate crosshatch design also. I just purchased Risu's and am quite happy with it, anyway.

Risu, kind of hypocritical dont you think, when you are clearly selling outside of the junkyard.

I'm not trying to sell anything. I haven't mentioned my fabric in any sales context in this thread.
