Man of Steel - Chest emblem - Master Done

Hey guys, I wanted to try this with my laser cutter and some manual old school skills...
this is how is working as now:

After making the pattern on my computer I sent it to my laser cutter. This was the outcome:

I then cut the back piece of the shield to host the bottom parts of the pattern.
Since the cutter cut the lines directly on the whole thing, I had to use tape to take parts out and transfer them onto the sintra back piece:

I then worked on the bevel of the top part of the emblem and then went on to attach the remaining part of the pattern onto the front part of the shield.
I had to take out all the excess parts of the emblem by hand even though the cutter did its job, I couldn't let parts of the pattern fall down...so I had to clean it all with a second step.

I then cut the outern part off a 5mm thick acrilic that I am going to bevel in the next days.

I am really digging the MoS emblem, and you've done a great job replicating it! 'Can't wait to see more!

Looks great! Would love to see you tackle the "pattern" in large urethane sheets. That could, you know, be glued to a lycra suit.... :)

I personally don't like much about the [insert latest Hollywood reboot film title here] but I think you've done a great job with "old school" skills.
If this were the Superman Returns emblem I would possibly be interested in a cast, but that doesn't detract from the great work you've done on this.

Re: Man of Steel - Chest emblem - No 3D print

Ok guys, first of all, thanks for your kind words!
Second, I had a little hiccup:

I decided to make a narrower S in order to put some filler on the edges of the top layer and make the raised edge as the real thing has.
The filler though, went too much in and made the piece a waste.

So I decided to directly cut the holes in the top/pattern layer in the computer template and made a little space between the cut and the end of the pattern around the holes, so that all the bits of the pattern would just be attached to a little piece of styrene instead of flying around everywhere. It worked awesome.

Here are some pics:

And here I have another update.
I've finished to apply the raised edges everywhere needed.

Then I cut some other pieces in order to make the first moke-up.

Tomorrow I'll start to put filler on the outside parts of the edges to make the beleved parts of the emblem:

Thanks guys!
I'll be molding this tomorrow morning.

Also, I'm pretty excited as I might be able to get a nice metallic look on the red just like it was seen on the big screen :D

Btw, I've started a JY thread if any of you are interested ;)
