Maltese Falcon at the NRA Museum

So my in-laws came in from out of town and my father in law is a big hunter and gun and hunting enthusiast so we decided to go to the NRA museum here in Fairfax, VA. It was very interesting and though I am not as into guns as he is I can appreciate a piece of history and a well put together firearm. So fast forward through our foray through the museum and come to the part where my wife tracks me down and rushes me over to the Hollywood firearms collection, they had everything, from "the Pacific" Miniseries, 3:10 to Yuma, The Terminator, Bonanza, huge huge collection of firearms from movies and TV shows. I looked down, and there it was, The Maltese falcon, amongst all the firearms, with a sign 'NO PHOTOGRAPHS ALLOWED" not of the firearms..but of the Falcon itself. I was perplexed as I it was definitely an old piece, definitely heavy cast metal, looks at though it had been dropped and moved and scratched and had some age to it. I do not know of what its provenance was except it was donated from the Collection of a Dr. Gary Milan for the exhibit. I am not sure if anyone is interested in this information, or it is known but I though it was worth mentioning. I did not have a camera or my phone to risk taking a picture, all I know is if there is a sign in the NRA that says no pictures..I wasn't going to risk it.

Yep, that is one of the very few original Falcons that are known to exist. Old news around here though.

Well that is interesting for me at least, I figured someone already knew about it but as I said, thought it worth mentioning on the off chance.

There is a video floating around of the local Fox affiliate that shows them unboxing it...and unboxing it scarily. It makes me cringe to watch.

If you're a fan of the classic prop, I'd stay away from the video, it will only make you fear for its safety. :p
