Making resin castings is not "hard" but does take a bit of learning . First you need to create a mold - most commonly out of RTV silcon rubber. making the mold is probably the hardest part as you need to plan ahead on "how" you're going to pour the resin into the mold such that all of the detail gets filled in, and all of the air has a place to escape the mold so that there are no gaps.

I have to ask though, wouldn't it be simpler to pick up an airsoft replica of a colt? I would think that it would be easier and probably less expensive... unless you're going to make a LOT of copies...

it would be cheaper in the long run unless you're making alot. I've even seen some nice cheap ones at the dollar store as a kid's toy even though it isn't marked as a Colt 1911 you can tell.

Just for kicks I hit ebay searching for "colt 1911 airsoft" and got 49 hits without seaching inside the auction... lowest was at $.99

just sayin' :D

Does anyone have a good tutorial they could post or link? I've been having a bit of trouble getting my silicone to cure properly so I could really use some directions. lol

I don't have a tutorial or anything but with the RTV Silicon AND the resin its very important to mix to the proper ratios... that and make sure you give it the time that is stated OR MORE in the directions for the silicon and Resin. I usually let things sit for a day or so before I demold... temperature effects the set up times as well if its cold it takes longer...
