Majora's Mask foam build!

So one of my friends (who's a huge Zelda fan) turned 18 recently. I decided I was going to make her a hyrule warriors scarf, but changed my mind... She's a huge MM fan so I thought what the heck! It should be easy enough! ;) I was going to post on here at the beginning, but then I forgot. So here's what I have so far! Hopefully people can get inspiration or give me tips and such :D I apologize in advance for any crappy pics, I'm not much of a photographer

So I started with some EVA Foam, which has quickly become one of my favorite materials, and cut out a heart shape and molded it with heat from a stove! (I moved recently out of my parents house and don't have many tools anymore :unsure)

I based the shape on the foam stretching way more than it actually did, so it's too tall in this pic and I had to cut some off later. You get the general idea!

Apparently I forgot to take pictures... But eventually I got their shape better, trimmed some off the bottom, glued them together with contact cement and gave it a few coats of tissue paper and modge podge. The center line was actually curved and crooked, but the modge podge/paper coat helps cover this up to an extent :D I also used a dremel to cut out the grooves near the top and the various holes in the mask

Bunch of coats of metallic acrylic paint!

And more paint!

And then more!

After like an hour of scrounging at the dollar store for something for the eyes I found this!
A disney princess foam ball with a plasticky outer coat :D

And more painting!!!!!!! And modifying the ball :)

So thats where I'm at now. I realize I accidentally put the black cheek line on the outside instead of between the white and green, so I'll probably need to fix that. But then I've only got the rest of the eyes, the horns/spikes, the raised black parts (which i'm not sure of how yet) and the rest of the detailing!

So that's where it stands! I'm pretty excited to finish this and pretty bummed that I cant keep it :(
Thoughts? Questions? Comments? Criticisms? Tips? Advice? Anything is welcome!

More mask! I painted more of the details. I decided to try out a paint pen with the white... I decided that I hate paint pens.... I also figured out that I'm not too good with painting small lines and circles on the eyes, but oh well! :facepalm

The eyes don't look as weird and googley in real life as they do In the picture. :wacko The sit on the mask crooked since my mask is more shallow than the actual one and therefore shaped differently. I may keep it, haven't really decided yet, but I kinda like the look of them! Any thoughts on whether I should or not?

I have around 10 days left to finish and I'm getting decently close! :D Until next time!
Stay classy, my friends!

Definitely! Nobody seemed interested and I forgot to post the rest of the pictures!
Making the spikes out of craft foam! Along with the rest of the detailing of the mask

coating them in modgepodge and tissue paper

painted spikes!

Before weathering

After (actually only about half done)

Finally finished!!! (Sorry that these ones kinda suck more than usual)

And BOOM! Amy questions!? I'll try to answer any question you've got! I can probably get more pictures if you want anything in particular (I don't own this mask anymore).
Cheers!

Its pretty much completely foam (EVA foam for the main body, a foam ball for the eyes, and craft foam for the spikes). It would be wearable if it had eye holes, but It was never meant to be work so it doesn't have any :)

Sweet thanks! Im working on the eva form right now. I'm going to try something different for the spikes though. What exactly did you coat it with before you painted?

Oh ok. thats pretty brittle though right? I might try that it gave it a really nice wood look.

It's quite flexible, like the foam. I chose it because 1. I had a tight timeframe and 2. I had it on hand. Id actually be worried about them bending too much and not looking good if it were handles very often. So that may be a consideration. But its cheap and easy, so its worth a go to make one to see if you like it!
