Luyke ESB belt pouch - question

does anyone know what the pouch is, on the front of Luke's belt in ESB?

talking about the long tall narrow pouch with the 'squished' shape.

- the shape looks very similar to the natural-occuring shape of a vintage, hand-held, telescope pouch:

- the size and proportion suggest it might be a pouch from a piece of vintage surveyor's equipment, a scope similar to this

(as a side-note: Luke's ANH rig had a belt pouch very similar to this other one, which is also a piece of hand-held surveyor's equipment)

is that a clue? I dunno.

I'm leaning towards the idea, that Luke's ESB pouch is meant to house a vintage "scope" of some kind -- the tell-tale shape says "telescope"

but the only pouches like this, which come up in image searches, tend to be surveyor's scopes.

I'm also wondering if it might be for a vintage rifle scope (?)

does anyone know definitively, what Luke's pouch actually IS? :p

(thanks in advance for your contribution to this thread). cheers

I believe that the pouch was for his droid caller. We never see him use it and since it does have the folds/bends in it, it may very well have been empty during filming. I always figured it was custom made along with the other two belt pouches, I never even considered it could be an off the shelf item. Would explain the already weathered appearance, and would only increase if the kobold couldn't fit and was empty during filming...
