Lucasfilm to Strike Back March 7th - Lucasfilm vs Andrew Ainsworth

Let me do a bit of research and let's see just how much interest/support there is.

You definitely have my support. like TMG, it's about getting the truth out. AA is going to have sales regardless of what we put out, especially from UK buyers, just because he is in the UK. But as long as people know what the truth is, im good with that.

I am always curious as to all the ire directed at AA (all of which I think is well deserved incidentally), when another, far more well known company engages in this exaact same type of errant salesmanship.

Why no hate directed towards Rubies, with their "Made from Studio Molds" claim emblazoned on each and every Vader helmet they sell. While granted one distinction is that they dont claim credit for the work of others, but their intentionalt and negligent misrepresenations as to what their Vader helmet is, is far more egregious that what AA does. I know their helmet may have some long extinct lineage to an actual Vader helmet, it is clearly not cast from 'Studio Molds'. And these things are sold in shopping malls across the USA.

Whats up, wheres all the Rubies hate?

:) Sean

Are you new? Every single time someone posts something from Rubies, it is slammed. I mean every...damned...time. There is no love here for that company.

How dare you sir! Again, I say, how dare you! This is a fine, fine example of a Boba Fett costume that accurately represents what was seen in the movie, right down to the upside down rubber belts, and the "bust a sag" cod piece.

They are given LFL molds and masters to work with, so they aren't lying. Just because you assume movie production or from screen used, well, that's your problem not theirs. They ARE from LFL Studio Molds. Is it deceptive marketing, sure, 'cause they know people will make that assumption, but are they lying? No.

Yesterday I was talking to the plasterer (one of the most skilled plasterers in the film industry) who moulded Dave Prowse and cast the plaster figure for me to use for sculpting Vader.
He said that Liz Moore sculpted the model for the Millenium Falcon in clay and he moulded and cast it plaster. Liz then sharpened it in the plaster.
He was working in the main plaster shop and then when I started a small plaster shop was set up next to the Art Dept with 3 plasterers specifically to mould and cast the characters I was working on.
I will try to speak to him today to see if he has any more information. I knew he'd worked on the original production, I've known him since I was an apprentice, and I approached him when I'd been contacted by the Lucas lawyer but he did not want to be involved - and let's face it who can blame him.
Does anyone have any photos of the model of the Millenium Falcon that I could use for Liz's tribute page - I'm pleased to say her portfolio is growing :)
I'm sure I've seen photos of the model somewhere - don't know if there are any in the clay or plaster stages or just the finished stage.

Are you sure he wasn't mixed up with names?

As far as I know there was no "sculpted" Millennium Falcon that would have been cast by the plaster shop (nothing from clay).
The Millennium Falcon was built by the model shop at ILM. The full size was constructed by some set builders in the UK (shown above in plywood).
Maybe he mixed up the ship's name with something else?

I'm all for giving Liz credit for all she's done, but the Millennium Falcon isn't something of hers.

I am fully aware the full size Millennium Falcon was contructed from wood on the stage at Elstree as I saw it being built. It was a very impressive construcion and I have commented on it in the past.

Models are/were made for the Art Department to see how designs will look in 3D and to work from and also scaled models are/were made to use for large contructions.

With respect the plasterer concerned would know the name of such a distinct piece.

I understand, but I'm also very familiar with the Falcon and all it's incarnations and I've never seen any model that was sculpted.
Maybe pieces of the set like the rounded beige wall panels or the circular couch? I'd believe the couch was sculpted and cast. The cushion indentations remind me a bit of the styling of C-3PO.

I'd be happy to help with pics, but I don't know what to look for.
Maybe the plasterer could be more specific about what he and Liz worked on for the Falcon.
