Bud, Kate at E-patches is just brilliant, and the min order is only 2 patches. Ive ordered quite a few patches for various cotumes and she has a great eye for detail, and will send you pictures of what it will look like, until you are happy with the final draft. Her companies prices a very good too. They are based in Poland. I hope this helps?
It's interesting to note that the pale lilac 'ocean' area is not embroidered but rather a separate piece of coloured fabric. (Maybe to save on stitches?) The same trick was used on the FSA patches.
Okay, well most people (including me) probably thought that all of the patches for Outland were manufactured by The Thinking Cap Company, and therefore when you went to Forbidden Planet to buy an Outland cap you were getting an exact duplicate.
This may be true for the Con-Am patches, but the FSA patches were actually made in England.
Here is an original Outland patch:
and, for comparison, an aftermarket Thinking Cap FSA patch:
The difference I mentioned is in the central blue area. In the second photo it is embroidered as you would expect; but in the first photo it's a separate piece of blue fabric (as with the League patch).
So what goes on? I can only surmise that after filming, Thinking Cap were given the licence to produce further Con-Am caps just as they had done for production; and to reproduce the FSA patches anew. They then naturally used blue thread for that central area.
I'm not complaining; I wore my Thinking Caps for years. I just thought this was interesting trivia.
