Looking for optical fibers

Hey RPFers,

I'm currently trying to light my V3 X-Wing .. and all my researchs for fiber optics were useless around my place ..

I've also tried ebay, but it looks like I have no idea what to search for either .. I always come up with optical cables .. which is obviously useless!

So, any hints where I can buy optic fibers at good prices, online stores that would ship to Canada or Ebay sellers.

Any tips/help is much appreciated,

A cheap alternative, and a good way to start and practice, is to get one of these http://www.gadgetpages.com/product.php?xProd=446&jssCart=6f0632916e2e10542eb598cc07030c06 and chop the fibres from it. They sell them here in Aussie as Fantasia lamps and are usually in the cheap gadget stores.

Rats, Yeah, I've been shopping around town for the whole day last sunday looking for these .. and no stores had them .. I'll still do another pass before reverting back to an online store.

That's where i use to buy mine but last time, i had a bit of trouble with the service, the price charged wasn't the same they quoted me in an email and i had to fight a bit to finally get the order in order( quantity discount)!

4 weeks ago i fell in need again and after looking around, decided to try out http://www.thefiberopticstore.com/FOS-mainpage.htm

Absolutely great service, i ordered 900 feets of 0,25mm and 600 of each 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0mm for the monthly special section and the guy over there offered to combine the lengh on sturdy hobby spool. Shipping was more than fair 6$ . costed about 200$ but i have enough for a few projects! Would recommend anytime! and you can be sure next time will be from this place again

Which brings the next question, anyone knows how much fibers I need to lit a Salzo V3 .. I go cockpit only in FO, I thought under 25 feet would be well enough .. I have around 25-40 holes in my cockpits, I'll use only one .. would 6" each thread be enough to lit it? Holes have been drilled with a 1/32 drill bit.

It's the first time I'm doing this

Hey, it'll be a pleasure for a fellow modeler around here! I'm in Vercheres but i work next to the olympic stadium (10 min. walk from there). i'm sure we can manage something. As for size, 1/32 is 0.79mm if i'm correct so i would rather go for either 0.5 or0.75mm depending on what you want. 0.25 might look like a big hole with a small FO. And you're in a bit of luck, from my previous purchase, i've got 1 zip lock of each size( 0.5 and 0.75 ) that were 50 foot length.
