Looking for District 9 - alien arm pics

I'm going to attempt this costume for Halloween and was wondering if anyone had screencaps or pictures of the alien hand on Wilkus' left arm. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Excellent choice! :):thumbsup

Been looking up pics myself. I haven't seen too many screenshots from the film floating around though... Might have to wait for the DVD to come out.

I think this looks close to Wilkus alien eye, if it's any help: 9mmSFX - Canine

That's pretty cool, but i was going to do it "pre" eye. One, that eye is too expensive for a Halloween costume and two, OUCH.

Yeah... the contacts are really pricy. :unsure

I'll keep an eye open for decent screencaps of the arm. (no pun intended)

I'm trying to put this together myself for Dragon*Con. I found a decent picture of one of the aliens and have been working off it. But if I find anything I'll post it.

Cool, thanks. I hope some screen caps start popping up soon.

This would be awesome to see at a party:) I hope the screen caps show up soon:thumbsup

These are the best I've found.

I had the same thought. Relatively easy costume, but a fairly iconic one for those who have seen the movie. I'd probably also do the coat buttoned with alien arm not in a sleeve.

How are you planning to do the hand?

I'm not really sure yet. I have an idea, but I don't want to spend too much money on making it. I'm sure the Halloween shops will come out with something that I could probably pay $20 bucks for.

Here is the work I've done so far.

The glove is a basic glove that cost about a dollar. I sewed the fingers together, attached a bit of wire to support the longer fingers. Then began to cover it in duct tape.

I still have a bit of work to do. I want to smooth it out a little more and bulk up the back of the hand.

For the rest of the arm, I'm considering just covering it up with bandages.

I have about two more weeks, so I hope it turns out decent.

Re: Looking for District 9 - Wilkus alien arm pics

My first thought for an inexpensive hand was a similar approach to the budget Batman armor I did last year. (Many have used this approach.)

Construct the hand (glove) out of foam sheets, and coat it in plastidip. In order to make it look more organic, I'd go with the brush on plastidip rather than the spray most Batman costumers use. A rubber coated foam glove and a nice paint job, you could have something pretty nice.

Awesome, Stig!

I am seriously considering a pre-infection Wikus costume for myself.

Good luck to all.

Let me know if you want a close-up of the 'normal' aliens' hands from the official press stills.

:)

How close are the actual alien hands to that of the alien hand on Wilkus? I would be glad to see the press still.

Looking good TheStig.

Re: Looking for District 9 - Wilkus alien arm pics

I only difference I could tell from the photos is that Wikus' hand wasn't as rough looking.

TheStig...looking like a good start to me:)

Here's a cropped, rotated, lightened section from a publicity still.

You may be able to use Wikus as a rough guide for scale and color.

Please be sure to watch the trailers carefully as well, as they may also contain good shots of alien hands.
