Logan's Run party robe...how hard can it be?

So the GF has decided that she want to put together a couple of lounging robes like the one Logan wears in his apartment. To add a little more spice to the fun, she's giving herself one week to complete two robes. If you watch the movie, it looks extremely simple. I'd like to get a couple of thoughts from the costume pros.
First, what would you guess the basic shape to be? Triangle or rectangle? Second, what would you guess the material of the robes to be? (remember, we want them funtional as well as...well...fashionable :lol) Third, we can't figure out why it ties in the middle.
Any thoughts or ideas are very welcome.

Well HIS is a sort of robe... I guess kind of like what the Master wears in Manos, the Hands of Fate. :lol

Hers is just sort of a rectangle with a hole cut in the middle for her head to go through... no sides at all! :eek

Actually I see she gets to have one sleeve. :)

Karl, please tell me you have more reference on Jessica's dress! I GIS'd the hell out of that thing was never able to find anything substantial. And none of the other outfits she wears in the film are as... alluring.

It's almost like a Bill Theiss design. If only the rest of the costumes in Logan's Run were so well executed.

I have a few more in the files. I'd need to frame-grab the scene to get any more details. As I recall Jessica only wears this in the scene where she shows up on Logan's transporter pad, looking for... uh.... "jamaharon". :rolleyes

Actually she doesn't even have a sleeve, apparently... the material just drapes over the left arm giving the appearance of a sleeve.

Note to mods: despite how startlingly daring this outfit appears (keep in mind this was filmed in the mid-Seventies), notice that it actually does not show any more skin than a bikini would reveal. :sleep

Later in the film of course she wears this number.

Jenny Agutter sure is purty! :)

According to Mr. York this is the only piece of the film he came away with and he still wears it. He calls it a caftan.

Funny that when a guy asks for costume help there are only a few replies.

I guess all the help is reserved for a Thread started by a hot chick willing to show pictures.

Hers looks like a big rectangle. The left side is left long to hang down the arm and the right is pleated up on the shoulder. Looks like an iridescent chiffon fabric.

Can't tell what the dude is wearing. The only pic of him he's standing behind the girl. Looks kinda kaftanesque though.

Okay...best guess. What material should she use? I'd think you'd want something very comfortable.

I'll pop in the movie tonight and see what I can make of the shape. I seem to remember bends in the grey stripe, which would suggest a large square. Could be an illusion of memory, however.

As for fabric, I'd think something along the lines of his Sandman tunic, which if I'm not mistaken is some sort of blend, not entirely natural. My dad owns one of the background sandmen tunics (at least I think he still does) maybe he can take a peak at the label and chime in.

Wool, velvet and silk are all dryclean only though.

Interesting. This may be tougher than we thought. :lol
We've put together a pattern that we think looks pretty good based on the only source available. All we need now is to figure out a material and were on the way.

Wool, velvet, and silk are dryclean only.
Cotton wrinkles too easily.
A natural material will obviously be the most comfortable.
Sooo...what's left? :confused

Years ago my wife made me a sandman tunic and she used the cheapest dollar a yard polyester she could find and it looked perfect.
I am not saying to use polyester but a fabrick that would have seemd futuristic at the time like that veleveteen lycra that Sears used to make pajamas and robes out of?
