So, anyone remember this movie? Used to have a copy, years ago. So, I decided to make one...or two.
For starters, there is no consistency in the finer details of the lenses, so, pic a lens you like and recreated that.
I started with a 2 5/8" outer diameter 1 3/4" inner, but later decided to make a 1 7/8" outer diameter 1 3/8" inner diameter lens as well.
It starts with a 1/4" thickness aluminum and fun with hole saws. Figure out the side thingy patter you like.
The then drilled 1/8" holes into where the side thingys would be. Then attached the plate to a drill press and used a file to round to edges.
Next, a band saw to cut the pattern into the round plate. Since it was roughly filed, I now have great circular guides.
Next, use clay to make a moat to hold resin for the side thingys.
Fill with resin mixed with some glow-in-the-dark powder.
Then find a turtle with a domed piece of glass and prepare to make a mold.
Make a lens mold... Glue it to the resin with clear silicone, gives it a cool pattern on top.
File/sand down resin and get grooves out of the spun metal, spray with some laquer and...
Tah dah! And no Michael Bolton involved
