Hello Everyone! I had not posted in a bit and wanted to show some large wall plaques I made. These are made from foam and then I hard shell coat them to make the foam durable. I was working with different textures and paint techniques to make these look like aged bronze plaques, stone etc. Plaques range in size from 24 inches to 30 inches.

Thanks for looking and if you have any questions ask away!

I wasnt too sure when you stated foam... but these look nice! Great job!

I'm not even really turned off by the 'bumpy/holes' (surface)... it adds to the organic texture/feel of it.

Thanks for the kind words! When the foam has the dings or holes in it I just go with it and instead of trying to hide the imperfections I make the plaques "aged" :) Other ones like the bronze SHIELD logo I was able to get the surface details a lot smoother using a different coating. Then with something like the Avengers logo I go with the stone/concrete look so texture is not an issue at all.

I love making these plaques and signs and have some more in mind, if anyone has any suggestions or ones they would like to see e made just drop me a line and let me know :)

I use hotwire tools. The tools have a wire that heats up and melts through the foam. I am thinking about making a Stark or Pym plaque which I think would look cool!

Actually I should be more specific! I have used just the hand held hotwire tools on the plaques I make however on these I did use a hotwire tool that is CNC machine. It does not so much router the material out but the pieces are cut out using the heated wire, then the pieces are glued down to the backing board. After that the piece is coated to protect it then I paint it up :) The biggest thing now is just getting the art into the computer program and converting it to work with the machine. Loads of fun and I am thinking about starting an interest thread for people who may want plaques made. Lots of logos to do which would look cool on your wall or as a display to go with someone's prop collection :)
