What was the size of the crystal balls used in labyrinth?
I am guessing about 70mm but I could be wrong.
If anyone knows let me know.

Michael Moschen who did all the contact juggling in that movie tends to use 75mm crystal balls, I hope that helps.
Cheers

fairly uncommon for a crystal ball, but very standard for a contact juggling ball.

Yep. Juggling supply houses will sometimes carry these. I believe the "crystal balls" are just clear acrylic balls, which can look quite dazzling. 76mm, or 3 in., is a standard size, although I am using a larger size.

If this is something you're interested in, I recommend James Ernest's book, "The Contact Juggling Book." I have it, and it's very easy to follow.

My own personal recommendation is to practice with a non-acrylic ball first. I picked up a defective glow in the dark vinyl ball of my own - nothing to look at, it's an ugly brown, but it's helped me develop my one-ball skills.

Yeah, my one-ball skills. That's what she said. ;) :lol

while you're at it, I also recommend picking up a pair of poi for poi spinning, it's a lot of fun as long as you don't smack yourself in the genitalia.

Oddly, I've seen some sort of ball for sale on television lately where its supposed to make contact juggling easier, ball inside a ball is my guess? They were really buying a lot of airtime around Christmas (my job is related to programming advertising to air)

Anyone actually tried one of those things? I couldn't stop thinking about Labyrinth every time the commercial came on.

I taught myself the regular 3-ball juggling on a whim recently, but contact juggling would be cool to add to the random list of things I can do at parties lol

That would be the Fushigi ball. It doesn't make anything easier, it's just a shiny ball within an acrylic ball. They claim it enhances the illusion, but because the mirrored inner surface is imperfect, I feel it does the opposite. I had heard that any store that stocked them had a TON of returns because most people expected there to be some sort of trick to their operation, instead of a skill-based item.

I really need to up my contact juggling skills...by which I mean, I have none. :p
