KingPin (Marvel)...what would make this character more recognizable on the cheap?

Kinda late to the game, but I've been thinking of putting one together for awhile. The problem is, well I'm 6'7" and I can't seem to find a local place that has anything my size unless I want to drop $100 for a single dress shirt. I couldn't even if I wanted to until payday.

I managed to get myself a black/silver patterned suit vest at least for cheap. I just think with out the purple garments, I'll just look like a joe shmoe in a regular suit instead of character costume..Thoughts on this?

I've got a white dress coat, though if I do wear it I'd have to wear it opened. As for slacks, only got black and dark/navy blue...Oy...
I thought I could put together a quick and dirt Obliterator cane though...

Plus...I need to shave my head.

Does it ultimately really matter if I wear purple or not?

I have seen a few Kingpins pulled off rather well,

You have the size thing working for you now its a matter of the look, purple not that big of an issue.
Though purple for the neck ascot would make help convey the look of the Kingpin when you add the cane. I can't remember where I saw it but there is more than one approach to Kingpin. I like the suit jacket off with a dress shirt with an arm garter as in "Kingpin had to handle an issue himself."

Remember some costumes are more about the attitude & confidence then all the little details because in the end Kingpin is a guy in a dress suit.

True, I have the size (Marvel.com has him at 6'7" though I'm a little over 100lbs shy of his listed weight (fortunately!).

My idea/concept I wanted to do was make a more "real world" KingPin, well, I'm not sure that really even makes much sense reading that..I guess what I'm trying to say, is less-cartoonish. I want to use the darker purples...instead of an ascot, to use a purple tie (with appropriate jeweled pin). I figure I can get away with just wearing my white suit jacket, white dress shirt, vest, and black slacks? I can at least go and get a cheap purple tie. I think the cane would help...I was just gonna get a large wood dowel, paint it satin white, and slap on a faux jewel from micheals

I would point you to John Romita's Jr's work on Daredevil for that sort of look.

Yea, I was looking at this particular pic when looking for a vest. I just wasn't happy for the most part with what I could find in my size...just very bland to be honest..

Well, I did manage to go to a men's warehouse and get a nice dark purple/semi-shiny tie. I fabricated a temporary cane..though I couldn't find one of those fuax acrylic crystal-gems, so I went with a rounded wood top. Nothing crazy. Painted the whole thing white last night. Might clear coat it tonight.

Oh yea..finally shaved my head. I only almost bled to death about 5 times...

HA.. been there done that... may I recommend headblade.com lots safer if your doing it yourself.

Good luck on the suit, Need to post a few pics once you get it all done.

LOL I did get that. I only knew of it cause I'd always see the thing when getting new razor blades. The old lady at the register couldn't stop laughing when she noticed I was getting ready to shave my head. The head blade is just like a hot wheel's car...that will cut you...

I'll get pics when I can!

Sorry for the late update, but I managed to wear it at least once this week for a friend's Halloween party. Unfortunately, the majority of the crowd was much older and had no idea who I was. I was called Daddy Warbucks at one point too. Oh well. Now I can grow my hair back out!

Dude! Looks great! Can totally tell who you are... I agree purple trousers would take the costume to the next level.
