Junker Blaster from Snatcher (Sega CD)

Wanted to teach myself how to 3D model for a while now. Decided to start by modelling one of my favorite video game guns, the BLA-H17 from Snatcher with the aim to eventually 3D print it. Collected a pile of reference photos and sat down this afternoon with SolidWorks.

A few hours later I had knocked up part of the lower barrel, the area where the laser sight sits. Started with it as it looked the easiest part to model.

Very nice start! I'm also a big fan of Snatcher. And if I may give an advice, always keep in mind the scale - the production drawing you posted you help you a lot - because this blaster is HUGE!

Scaled it up to 38cm originally as shown in the production drawing but it was ridiculous. Ended up re-scaling it to 33cm, big enough to look intimidating while not being comedicly large.

For its original size, it should be called hand cannon, not blaster. Good luck with your modelling. Subscribed.

It was your thread on building Metal Gear Mk2 that inspired me to start this project. :D I'm using SoildWorks as its on the computers in my lab, really powerful piece of software but can be a bit tricky to work with. From what I've read, it's the best choice for engineering type 3D models, not so good for more organic shapes.

Did a bit more work today on the upper barrel. The vents at the rear must have taken an hour to do, mainly as the wrap tool is rather fiddly. Still needs tidying up but I'm pleased with the basic shape. Tomorrow I'll clean up the rear vents and add the strip of lights below the barrel.

Good luck with the Solidworks. I agree; powerful and tricky... A friend and I are trying to learn it together.

Gun looks good.

I've been meaning to make one of these myself (nevermind the Random Hajile shotgun I've got on a prolonged hiatus). Consider me subscribed to this build!

Getting there slowly but surely. If this goes well, I'll have to knock up Harry's boilersuit and hat for the complete ensemble.

Nearly done now, just trying to work out what to do with the empty space above the grip/trigger. Any ideas?

Looking good so far. I don't know how i missed this one. Does that empty space really need filled? I just noticed that the gun, even in the sketch doesn't have a safety so you could put that there maybe?

Going to remodel this as due to being my first model, my work is Solidworks was terrible. For one thing it's just a solid lump of plastic, rather than being hollow. Also would be too big to fit in my 3D printer so it'll be designed to print in multiple parts. Might offer a 3D printed kit once it's finished.

Started on the redesign, only now realised how stupidly big it'll be compared to a replica Beretta. Modelled and printed off the lower area of the barrel to some success. The walls of the curved bottom bits were way too thin so snapped when I took it off the print bed. Tweaked the model to fix it for the final version.

Got most of the upper part modeled. Breaks down into 3 pieces for ease of printing and construction.
