Jukebox for School of Rock the Musical

So... 3 years into this job, I got the opportunity to do up a jukebox prop late 2022 for a school musical "School of Rock" for the Arts/Drama department.
Since the most important part of the jukebox was the front... everything was plan & drawn using Adobe Illustrator (don't really fancy Fusion 360) to get all the measurement to scale with minimal error.
Material used: plywood, MDF, acrylic & cardboard.
6 weeks to deliver!!!
Here's some photos of the carcass & parts before assemble.

The lighting parts made of plywood frame support with acrylic. Covered with white paper sandwiched between 2 layers of clear PVC plastic. The battery operated LEDs run along the center.

Some parts assembled & one of those parts (MDF) thats being laser cut. The brackets supporting the battery operated LEDs ( 5meters ) & also will be supporting the acrylic U shaped parts. Just use a black paper to cover the "speaker" hole.

Another section using MDF & acrylic being laser cut & put together... wording printed on clear media!!! The numbers on the red buttons engraved using laser.
More parts being assembled. The curved sections put together by layering acrylic to achieve the "rounded" look.

Parts of a section being put together... have to use epoxy glue just to make sure that things stay in place. Do not want things to drop off during the show!!!
& also the 45rpm 7" vinyl...

Speaker cover made from reflective/mirror acrylic (laser cut) & back with felt cloth & netting. Bottom light cover MDF laser cut, bend & glued together. The area where U shape light cover meet the straight part, covered with cardboard using aluminium tape.

Lots of pictures missing due to a faulty mobile phone.
So here's the final product...!!!
The top & side (silver & red) uses cardboard with aluminium tape & red plastic sheet so it can be bend into shape to cover joints/gaps in between the lighted parts.

The top part uses cardboard sheet stapled down the the plywood frame, easy to bend to get the semi circle shape. Strips at the side & bottom using reflective/mirror acrylic. Sides & back painted with acrylic paint fudge brown. MDF parts left unpainted as it has its own light brown colour which matches with the whole thing.

Hope to have other opportunities soon.

Cool project! Using the layered acrylic to make the curved sections is a clever solution. You really don't notice unless you are looking for it. Thanks for sharing - Nice work!

I love how it presents great on stage, yet up close all the wrinkles and warts are there. Great work on the prop, and knowing where to focus your time and effort for maximum effect! What are you doing with it after?

Very well made theatre prop (y) (y)  The warts and little wrinkles don't matter; the audience didn't see those up close.
Lighting and how close is the audience from the stage is all what matters in the construction and finish of stage pieces!

Thank you. It's now sitting at one corner of the photocopier room!!! The Art/Drama department want to use it for every other production possible!!! hahaha
