Jewels for Treasure Chest

Hey everyone! Quick question.. I'm looking to get a few handfuls of fake jewels (and perhaps other booty) to put into a small treasure chest for my display. I was looking for something like what they had in the Goonies movie, either on the ship or in the marble bag. I have some doubloons, but they need company! I've found a few things on ebay, but they are either very obviously plastic, cheap looking or very tiny. Ideally they would be about the size of a nickel or quarter like in the movie and and made of glass (to add to the realism). Any ideas where I can find some?

Just search eBay. I cannot recall the seller I bought from before on ebay, but I got a set of 20 gold metal pirate Spanish coins along with a pouch of glass jewels of different sizes, shapes and colors. High quality and only about $25.00.

Hobby Lobby, use to have those large glass diamond's. You can get some fancy goblet's, under the
pimp section at the Halloween store's.

ive had to do some pirates chests for display. The difficult part is making them look full when in fact there are only a handful of individual jewels/coins/necklaces/chalices on top.

You can either sculpt a quick false bottom (with gold items sculpted in) that mounts higher with the help of a couple 2x4's or glue plastic dollar store coins to a board and repaint it. Once thats done it simply a matter of filling in the loose items for depth and detail. A gold chalice will eat up a bot of space while adding a mass of depth while few strands of pearls will really set it off. Dollar stores will usually have some sort of costume jewelry that goes a long way with a repaint. Pirates chests (for films) are not just coins and loose jewels but all sorts of precious metals including silverware and pocket watches. Its all pending on your final idea.

Those eBay ones are nice, except that they're all the same color. I didn't see an assortment being offered.


I found these on eBay, they're acrylic instead of glass. But they are different shapes and colors and look decent in the picture. You may have to email the seller to determine size.

use search term "13 Acrylic GEMSTONES" remember to use the quotes.
